Newt Gingrich Is Bullish on Donald Trump
Slate ^ | 3/23/16 | Isaac Chotiner

Posted on 03/23/2016 8:46:37 PM PDT by tatown

So why are Trump’s negatives so high, if he is giving a voice to the masses?

Look, Trump has been campaigning in a Republican primary with harsh language and has been routinely attacked by the elite media as much as they can. Reagan went through the same cycle. Do you know how many points Reagan was behind Carter in March?

It was double digits, right?

Twenty-five. Not just double digits. Twenty-five points. So if you had talked to me in March of 1980, you would have said, “How can I support this crazy right-winger who makes movies with chimpanzees and is 25 points behind Carter?” And I would have said, “Because I think he can win.” Which, by the way, he did.

Is there really nothing that worries you about this guy? The way he deals with reporters, his campaign manager, etc.? You are not at all worried he has authoritarian tendencies?

No. No. [Laughs.] Which part of that is supposed to bother me?

That his campaign manager may have assaulted a reporter?

Oh c’mon. Did you ever look at it?

I have looked at it, many times.

That’s an assault?

He grabbed her arm very hard.

Great find. This is why JimRob endorsed Newt in 2012.

I’m glad that Gingrich is able to forgive Trump for endorsing Romney while Newt was still in the primaries back then.

That endorsement was after Florida where Gingrich got killed, and Gingrich’s campaign was in complete disaray after that and was 20% behind in the polls. So while Gingrich was still in primaries for awhile it was over.

The most telling thing about this interview, was the arrogance of Chotiner the reporter. He was surprised that Newt had read Trump’s books, because snotty elite professional reporters would never stoop to such lows. They’d just make up their minds based on what other people wrote about Trump, and call it even.

Chotiner goes on throughout the interview, showing himself to be very poorly informed, judgmental, arrogant, and unable to grasp fundamental human ideologies that differ from his own narrow vision of middle America.

Very enlightening, and great points from Newt!

There was a time then Mr. Newt was vilified on this site as a traitor to conservatism and the country. My how times have changed.

Newt has intermittent flashes of wanting to be loved by the media and the left. I'm not sure why. But for the most part Newt is a conservative and I think most Conservatives give him a pass on his occasional hiccups since he was the architect for the "Contract for America". Without Newt as Speaker it never would have happened and Newt had to fight hard to get the Speakership.

Gingrich is a practical and humble guy who doesn’t hold grudges, unlike the Donald.

A very good Q&A with Newt.

Yes, it was.

Newt sees what the rest of Trump supporters see: that Donald Trump is a competent, sincere, passionate, Patriotic, red-blooded American who loves his country and wants to work for the American People to make America Great Again.

The character assassination which the Trump-haters in the Establishment and the Cruz campaign (but I repeat myself) are engaging in is absolutely shameful.

I, for one, won't soon forget the wickedness of those who are making this hysterical all-out attempt to destroy Donald Trump personally, simply because he wants to shake up Washington or because he stands in the way of someone's selfish ambition.

The Mass Media, the DC Establishment, and the Ted Cruz and John Kasich campaigns are all complicit in this vicious vendetta.

Donald Trump is in for the fight of his life against the wide army of sleazy haters arrayed against him, but as long as he stays true to himself, I believe he'll ultimately emerge victorious in November!

Go, Trump, Go!

Does that mean Trump has sold out to the GOPe??

That would be Cruz that you're thinking of - he's become their cats paw and is basking in the support of Mitt and Jeb and others willing to go slimy if it helps him. With others doing the dirty work, he can pull an Obama and say, "I didn't do it - I didn't even know about it until I saw twitter (or TV)".

Get your facts straight son.

His negatives aren't high, unless you buy into the BS of the treasonist media and the treasonist GOP-E.

I'm really tired of so called Christians acting like self righteous pricks when they run into men who have been divorced.

its the biggest problem evangelicals, who are guilt ridden, and the magic underwear clan have with Trump. Yet the evangelicals support Trump over Cruz. Go suck on that.
