WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. presidential candidate Ted Cruz won the backing of former rival Jeb Bush on Wednesday as prominent Republicans overcome their aversion to the conservative senator to try to force a standoff with insurgent Donald Trump at their party's convention in July.

The endorsement by Bush, part of a Republican dynasty, is the latest sign of how keen the party's establishment is to stop Trump, fearing that his rhetoric on illegal immigration and national security will cost the party votes at the Nov. 8 presidential election.

Cruz, a U.S. senator from Texas, is a staunch social conservative and a divisive figure in the party due to his willingness to criticize the leadership and his prominent role in bringing about a 2013 government shutdown.

But he is still seen by party grandees and many Republicans in Congress as preferable to Trump, a real-es

“Republican elites”

When has the main stream media ever used a term like that before until very recently? Basically, never.

Today, politico, thehill, and now yahoo have all reported the Bush endorsement of Cruz with that kind of language and this kind of analysis: “Cruz gets Jeb Bush backing as Republican elites try to stop Trump”

It’s clear to me that the main stream media are reading FreeRepublic to get an understanding of what’s going on in the GOP and are paraphrasing the analysis that many of us here are providing.

“I don’t think he’s a rube being set up to take a fall. I think Cruz knows damn well what he’s doing and knows there’s a huge monetary reward and some cushy gig waiting for him once he fufills his part of the plan.”

I agree. There’s been a specific quid pro quo offered to Cruz by the GOPe power brokers; in other words, Ted has sold us out lock, stock and barrel, just like every other damn fake “conservative” has recently, only Ted’s doing it BEFORE being elected to anything. At least the other fake “conservative” turncoats had the decency to wait until AFTER they were elected to stab us in the back.

“Consider how these endorsements would be viewed if Trump was not in the race.”

Exactly the same assuming these SOBS viciously opposed Cruz and then suddenly endorsed him for their own nefarious purposes,namely that there had been a specific quid pro quo offered to Cruz by the GOPe power brokers; in other words, Ted had sold us out lock, stock and barrel, just like every other damn fake “conservative” has recently, only Ted was doing it BEFORE being elected to anything. At least the other fake “conservative” turncoats had the decency to wait until AFTER they were elected to stab us in the back.

“Cruz is polling well in Wisconsin”

RCP average has Trump ahead by 5:

“and latest Fox poll shows him tied with Trump.”

the Fox poll is a national poll and is an outlier (surprise, surprise):

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/us/2016_republican_presidential_nomination-3823.html

the rcp poll average has Trump ahead of Cruz by 12.7.

So now, Jeb Bush is backing and advising Ted Cruz.

Remember this nonsensical advice from Jebby?

"Jeb Bush calls illegal immigration 'an act of love'"

It may seem off topic but it’s really not: As it stands now Trump needs to do as well as expected in CA and the remaining seaboard states. If he can do that and grab a few others like WV and IN he can get to 1237 which will take the wind out of the GOPe’s sails.

Trump could lose WI, PA WA, OR and all the Ted-type states (nebraska etc). and still get 1237. I’m not saying it will be easy though.

“They didn’t blame Trump for David Duke, why start now”

>>LOWLIFE

A self-evident projection.

I’ll vote for your guy if he’s the nominee, although wrt you, it will be slumming.

Little trumpers did not blame Trump for his mob ties; for bribing Ben Carson for very reluctant support;
for hiring illegals to work for him;

They didn’t blame Trump for serial adultery.

But it’s horrible, horrible, to get an endorsement from Jeb Bush.

Do you people seriously think Jeb would endorse Trump after Trump viciously attacked him

Jeb endorsed the better man and the better candidate and Ted Cruz welcomed the endorsement.

I don’t either

>>Do you people seriously think Jeb would endorse Trump after Trump viciously attacked him

I would hope he would if Trump’s the nominee. If not, I’ll think less of him than I do already.

First Romney, who so many Cruz fans detested (until he came out for Cruz) and now Jeb. Any “Cruz or Lose”ers having second thoughts yet???
