Legendary Intel executive Andy Grove, who transformed the company into a chip-making powerhouse and helped drive the personal computer boom, has died. He was 79.
Although Grove wasn't technically a founding member of Intel (Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce were the company's two co-founders), he was present at the company's incorporation in 1968. He went on to become Intel's president in 1979, CEO in 1987 and chairman from 1997 to 2005.

His biggest mistake was believing someone he trusted on the Pentium Flaw. Vinod Dham lied to him and Andy took responsibility, fixed the problem even though it cost the company hundreds of millions.
Oh and for those who don't know, Andy was a strong Conservative and anti-communist.
One Hungarian Jew that Soros failed to have killed.
He spoke at our graduation. Anyone who has ever read his bio tells of his story coming to America not knowing the English language and what does he do?
he goes at night to the local public library and borrows English textbooks to learn unlike today’s generation where they bitch and whine if someone doesn’t speak Spanish...however, he’s a loony leftard.
Oh and for those who don’t know, Andy was a strong Conservative and anti-communist.
...
I didn’t know that, but I’ve certainly heard of him. Would like to know more.
Zathras above said he is no loony leftard but a conservative and anti-commie.
Yes, you were able to work for one of the greatest business leaders of all time.
Glad he survived for so long.
He was diagnosed with prostate cancer during the late 90s.
I enjoyed reading about his own studies about the disease and its treatment options. He wrote an article about it in Fortune.
He was truly a brilliant man.
RIP.
RIP. It’s always a shame to see the end of a fine American businessman who didn’t need the government to make money, but I hope he enjoys his new beginning up above.
This is one CEO who absolutely knew what the hell he was doing.
I saw a documentary recently on Andy Grove, Intel, and the rise of Silicon Valley, and it was fascinating.
One of the good ones
May the angels sing him home
Until 2000, Andy and most of the board of directors donated to the GOP.
After the .com crash, the fixation on WOT and ignoring technology pushed most of them away.
Paul Otellini was the last of the Intel Republicans.
Andy donated his time to Stanford to teach business startup and management.
He drove an old busted up Mercedes wagon everyday to work.
Probably had 300k miles on it.
No limos for Andy.
Much of Silicon Valley has always about getting rich.
Andy taught engineers that commitment and hard work is more valuable.
Sleep well my friend, it was a real pleasure to work for your company!
A bit long, but worth it. Every minute fascinating.
After I watched this, I understood many things I had always wondered about.
RIP.
The present management is a bunch of no good lousy progressive idiots. I have seen the company go from a vibrant open door policy innovative company to a politically correct hell hole. Diversity is NOT our strength. it will be our death. the new intel motto is “perversity is our strength”. No old white males need apply. Innovation is dead. Shut up and keep your head down, or you will get fired.
Was good working with you Zathras, you got out at a good time. you would not recognize it here anymore.
Thank you Andy for giving me a chance.
“Zathras above said he is no loony leftard but a conservative and anti-commie.”
he wasn’t. Soros was “anti commie’ and looked how that turned out.
