Each of the remaining presidential candidates delivered an address to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Policy Conference on Monday. And each, in their own way, did well.
Donald Trump benefited most of all, as he was expected to face protests, and faced doubts about his ability to deliver a detailed policy speech. He gave a stirring, comprehensive address that won standing ovations. Here are his, and his rivals, overall grades at AIPAC.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R): A. The Ohio governor is often pigeonholed as well, as the governor of Ohio. But he proved his foreign policy knowledge on Monday evening, recounting his history of fighting for Israel in Congress and the Ohio Statehouse. On substance, Kasich offered one of the best speeches of the evening. Partly, he succeeded by beating low expectations, which had been stoked by lackluster debate performances. But he did well, regardless.
Donald J. Trump (R): A-. Trumps speech will be the story of the night, because the media, and his rivals, had set expectations so low. He prepared accordingly, using a teleprompter for the first time and deviating only occasionally from his text. He also clarified his stance on neutrality in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, making clear that he saw Israel as the aggrieved party. One small but significant problem: he referred to Palestine rather than Palestinians.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX): B+. A thorough, heartfelt, competent speech and one that he has delivered before, many times. There were a few new flourishes he dinged Trump from the outset for the term Palestine, for example but he was basically repeating a stump speech to pro-Israel groups, and the energy in the room seemed (from afar, anyway) to sag.

PING!
‘One small but significant problem: he referred to
“Palestine” rather than “Palestinians.” ‘
Whoops, the thought police will be after him for that.
The lowest grade is a B+. With grade inflation, every participant in a panderfest is a winner!
The question is, who do you believe?
“Trumps speech will be the story of the night, because the media, and his rivals, had set expectations so low.”
Go Trump!!
Trump’s speech was the only one outlining solutions for the future. He brought the house down.
The rest were filled with recaps of stuff we already knew. I didn’t understand the point of Cruz’s speech.
I’m impressed that he used a teleprompter. It is not as easy as you might imagine.
TRUMP owned the evening!
He had to follow Kasich’s outstanding speech and TRUMP more than delivered!
He not only fired up the AIPAC crowd, he exceeded all expectations and allayed all previous concerns.
President TRUMP!
I can’t believe this guy gave Hillary Clinton’s speech a B+.
It was embarrassingly pandering. It was something for everyone. She praised a gay pride parade in Israel. It was completely focused on herself, much less about about Israel.
And it was very dishonest. She said she would not negotiate, then spoke about how she would negotiate. She said we must cut off funds for terrorism. Then she praised the Iran deal which will provide billions for terrorism. She said there will be tough restrictions on Iran, but said nothing about the fact that nothing was done after Iran’s recent missile launch. She talked about fighting terrorists but failed to mention the contributions to the Clinton foundation for those who sponsor terrorism.
Her speech was dishonest, hypocritical and pandering.
I deserves an F.
Biden F
In the big picture, Palestine is known by its’ demographics and Cruz’s reference to the 1947 agreement was just a smart a** comment.
What about Bernie? F for no-show?
I can’t stand Bernie the commie, but why should candidates for president of the US have to dutifully show up to speak to any group that represents the interests of a foreign nation.
