On a day that included the identification of the man suspected of fatally shooting Howard County Deputy Carl Koontz and the release from IU Methodist Hospital of Sgt. Jordan Buckley, Koontz's partner early Sunday morning, the fallen law enforcement officer was brought home to rest.
During a procession that saw thousands of Hoosiers line the streets from the Marion County coroner's office to Stout & Son Funeral Home in Kokomo, Koontz was honored by his fellow law enforcement officials and mourned by gathered family members.

Sunday
12:30 a.m. Howard County Sheriffs Department 911 Communications Center receives notice of shots fired at 380 Chandler St., Russiaville. During the exchange of gunfire, HCSD Sgt. Jordan Buckley and Deputy Carl Koontz who are serving a warrant alongside other deputies and Russiaville and Kokomo police are shot.
This young deputy sheriff was serving a warrant. He was 27 yrs old with a wife and a young baby. The suspect turned his own gun on himself & took his own life.
I was one of the thousands lining the procession route up Highway 31.
Was quite a tribute.
Thank you. I was unable to get out. I have a grandson who is an officer, same age with a wife & a seven month old daughter. Just makes your heart ache!
