We need to know either State by State or at least on the average how they are bound and what their allegiances really are. Knowing how they are actually chosen would be a start.
Impy might know. I'm not sure who else would if he doesn't.
I would be interested to see that.
Well, Auh2orepublican is pretty smart, maybe he knows more. Campaignpete is pretty plugged in.
It depends on the state, in my state of IL most of the delegates were directly elected by Congressional district, so we know their names at least, doesn’t mean we know them from Adam, most of the big names ran for Kasich or Bush, the Trump people (most of whom won) were unknown random people but one assumes they’re loyal Trump supporters. The rest (the statewide ones) will be elected at the state convention this May.
Those seem to be the 2 choices, directly elected or chosen at the state conventions. All the caucus states choose them at state conventions if I’m not mistaken. The exact breakdown, I don’t know.

This article posits a lot of delegates bound to Trump on the first ballot will be people that don’t like him who might quickly abandon him on subsequent ballots. Michigan is specifically mentioned. Very interesting.
It’s all rather arcane. The failure of any candidate (sadly, Trump is the only one who still can, Cruz would need 88% of outstanding delegates) to win on the first ballot would create a situation unprecedented in modern times.
Not many agree but I still like my idea of having a same day (May or June) nationwide closed primary with an instant runoff ballot (voters rank the candidates, choices are eliminated until someone has a majority).
