Cruz comes across as rehearsed because he has an audiographic memory. He literally has the ability to recall perfectly anything that he’s heard, including speeches and position statements he’s read out loud to himself.
This gift is a major reason he did very well arguing before SCOTUS.

Attorneys don’t “argue” before SCOTUS. They have precisely 30 minutes to READ their documentation supporting their argument. The documentation is the result of weeks or months or even years of research done by the attorney’s colleagues, paralegals, etc. It doesn’t require “thinking on your feet”.
It’s easy to see why he bombs in rallies and debates.

The anti trump strategy has been to do frontal assaults on trump right before each primary. Tuesday battlefield is again the focus of this assault 24 hours before voting.
There will be some accusation launched that cannot be responded to in less than 24 hours.
