Regardless of if one thinks Cruz is the answer or a charlatan, or Trump is the right candidate for the times or a dangerous fake, the point I think everyone should keep forefront in their mind is the tactics of the Left which is inclusive of the Democrats, the media, and ostensible members of the GOP who are leftists, which many of us refer to as the GOPe.

The point is, these tactics are well known. Anyone who buys into the snake oil being sold by the Left here is simply playing into their hands. Because it isn't a case of "Democrats and the media are really right this time by referring to Trump as a dangerous, racist, lunatic."

It is simply a case of them trying to manipulate the voting patterns of conservative voters by painting the non-Democratic candidates in ways to divide the non-liberal vote and set them against each other. (Note that they aren't all that worried about liberals voting for people like Reagan or Trump, though they should be...if they chose to remember history past the last five minutes, they would remember that there were plenty of "liberal" votes that went to Reagan because of the quality of their candidate, Carter) Check out this cover of Time magazine that just came out, and was given to me by my Father-in-Law. (Note he isn't necessarily liberal, he is just passing on a magazine, he obviously didn't see it the way I did when I saw it.) I had an instant wave of revulsion, more than I normally do when I see the large-font title of TIME on the cover of the magazine. I have not read Time magazine since around 1996, if that. To put my views in perspective, I would reference the phrase from Star Wars about never finding "a more wretched hive of scum and villainy..."

But that said, I am sure most of us, supporters of Trump or supporters of Cruz, would look at this and say: "WTF?"

These are the very same people, THE SAME, who painted Reagan in EXACTLY the same light, using the same tactics. Would anyone have been surprised to see something like this back in 1980?

They despised Nixon with a white hot, burning passion, and they despised Reagan just the same. Don't get me wrong...I am not saying Trump is Reagan any more than I would have said Reagan was Nixon, or anything along those lines. I actually distrust and dislike Trump, but that doesn't mean I won't pull the lever for him. But I won't pull that lever on the basis of what Time magazine and their ilk are trying to get me to think, which is my point. That point is, we play into their hands when we adopt their tactics, precepts, and premises, even for ostensibly our own purposes, because that is exactly what they want us to do. The tactics of the Left don't change, and while they may have no use for history except to further their own goals, they are entirely predictable. One only has to look at the treatment of Whittaker Chambers and Joseph McCarthy to see the exact same tactics they use today against their opposition.

Thanks for posting this.

Those of us who were old enough to vote for and work for Ronald Reagan as governor and president remember the all out assault by the rats and our own GOPes

The Christian Science Monitor has always been leftwing slime.

They were major promoters of Arafat and the muslims.

Letter To The Editor - 1976

Reagan Rightest in Talk But Liberal in Action

The Evening News (Newburgh, NY) - Feb 12, 1976
https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=ZCdHAAAAIBAJ&sjid=AzQNAAAAIBAJ&pg=4286%2C1580368

“To the Editor,

Daniel Mahoney, (NY) state chairman of the Conservative Party, recently stated, “Ronald Reagan ... running for president is the best news conservatives have heard in years.” I can remember him saying the same thing about Richard Nixon in 1972.

A little research will show that Reagan is a colossal fraud. Like every presidential candidate since Woodrow Wilson except Barry Goldwater. Reagan, should he be nominated, will give the rhetoric to middle America and the action to the liberals.

As Governor of California, Reagan promised economy, but in fact the state tax budget doubled and taxes increased accordingly. He supported the Berianson law, which legalized abortion.

Reagan belonged to the United World Federalists for 13 years. This group promotes the overthrow of the U.S. Constitution.

Reagan, along with Hubert Humphrey, was a charter member of the Americans for Democratic Action, an offshoot of the English socialist Fabian Society.

Reagan signed the Mulford anti-gun law, which infringes upon California citizens right to bear arms.

Reagan promotes large regional government planning with results like MTA illegal land take-overs.

Reagan supports sexual education in schools and their takeover by the federal government.

Reagan supported the liberal policies of Nixon and Henry Kissinger.

Reagan betrayed and abandoned outstanding educator Dr Max Rafferty.

Reagan is supported by the large eastern establishment power brokers, just like Nixon was.

The American Party will have a candidate this year who will represent the best in America. You will have to watch closely because the invisible power brokers will make sure the American Party candidate is ignored. They do not want a political change which would remove their hands from every American’s pocket book.

Raymond L. Shideler
Town of Newburgh” (NY)

Reagan Signs Gun Control Law

The Spokesman-Review - Jul 29, 1967
https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=mb5YAAAAIBAJ&sjid=DukDAAAAIBAJ&pg=3707%2C4065407

“Everybody get ready to unload their guns now”,
said the Republican governor jokingly as he signed the bill into law.

At an earlier date he had said, “Americans don’t go around carrying guns with the idea they’re using them to influence other Americans. There’s no reason why on the street today
a citizen should be carrying loaded weapons.”

Thanks all, this was one of the most interesting threads I’ve read in a long time. Reagan was no conservative saint, that’s for sure. He was a tower of conservativism only in context, and stood far above the liberal rot and treachery of his day. While different in many ways, I see Trump doing the same thing now. But we live in a much cruder and more vulger time than Reagan, and I don’t see Donald as being at that level himself, but rather showing that he’s not afraid to meet the enemy where they actually are. To many people just want things to be comfy, even political fights. That’s why the Left has taught young people that their comfort is the highest priority - to teach them to exclude themselves from the world of power. Trump rejects that, and is proving it every day. That’s why the Left had gone wild over him. And they won’t stop.

I actually voted for John Anderson in the primary because I thought he would be the best positioned to win.I wanted Reagan in my heart but, you had to remember Goldwater from 12 years earlier. Reagan won the nomination which left me with mixed feeling because he was unlikely to win. But, then as it developed polls were not as bad as I thought they would be. I felt real trepidation on election day. It seemed nip and tuck. So I was hopeful. That night as the election coverage was starting. The announcers said “there is an aura of victory around one of the candidate based on soundings and exit polls and that candidate was Republican Ronald Reagan.” I let out a cheer. As the night unfolded it was one of the happiest of my life as I saw Reagan win and Democrat Senator and congressmen were massacred.

Great points. 1980, however, was not “red and blue state America”.like it is today. A conservative could win California in 1980. No way today. Hmm I wonder why??? illegals maybe????

The only “blue” states trump has a chance in are Michigan and Wisconsin; perhaps PA. This is the pure battleground where trump needs to spend all of his time,

He takes 2 of these 3, he wins.

Cruz is certainly not the new Ronald Reagan.

Glenn Beck might be the new Hinckley, but
he is more likely the new John Wayne Gacy.
