Yes until he paid for the microphone.

I remember that well. He had the balls to stand up to everyone and tell them the obvious, and made damn sure he wasn't going to be bullied by all those non-entities.

I knew the guy had it when I saw a bumper sticker (imagine that!) that said, "Why not an actor? We've had a clown for the past 4 years!"

Boy, them's was heady days!

CA....

Reagan was the President needed at that time Trump is the President we need now. They are not the same but the trashing of them by fellow republicans the RNC and the media was the same. fYI George H W Bush was the Cruz of that time relentlessly trashing Reagan. He happily accepted the VP slot at the convention.

Excellent post.

McCarthy, Cohn, Chambers, Goldwater, Reagan, Meese, North, Perot, Paul, Buchanan, Gingrich, Keyes, Dornan, Palin, Bachmann, Cain, West ... Trump

I think I'm seeing a pattern here.

If you love America, despise the UN and internationalism and are a substantial threat to the leftist socialist neo-Communist liberals, then you are targeted.

If you play along, speak softly and carry no stick, you get to survive. And write for National Review or something.

Except Reagan cheated to get INTO the military and Trump (and every other Limp-Richard on the ballot) were too good to serve in uniform.

They did speculate that many Mathias/Javits style GOP members would bolt and in fact many did.

Agreed that Trump - nor anyone else here - is like Reagan. All of them fall significantly short.

Frankly I see Ben Carson as the closest - indeed, maybe even the closest to Washington. But he is out.

Right again. None of these candidates is like a Reagan. Let’s get real and stop the rhetoric.

Cruz is so much closer to Reagan that Trump will ever be. Trump’s branded himself as a Conservative 4 months ago. Cruz has been one his whole life.

You’re all making a huge mistake mark my words.

I am originally from California and witnessed first-hand what Progressives did to California. Nixon was hated because he tried to politically destroy all Progressives in the California State government.

Both Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan were Nationalists. None of this NWO crap in their speeches or behavior, none of this “to Hell with our sovereignty as a nation - let’s unite with Canada and Mexico to create the North American Union (NAU)”. Nixon and Reagan both served during WWII, and suggesting that the United States union be dissolved and be replaced with something other than what our founders created would be anathema to both men.

Have you ever noticed that the people who are pushing NWO crap NEVER mention voting on the subject? When I found out that both Sen.Ted Cruz and Heidi Cruz support not only the concept of NAU but its establishment, I knew neither was a Nationalist but both were Globalists and probably true Progressives.

Do not believe what they say; watch what they do.

Sen.Ted Cruz and Heidi Cruz are not like Reagan and neither of them are conservatives. They are Globalists who despise the concept of self-government as both support the North American Union (NAU) which will destroy the United States.

The establishment of the NAU, which would destroy the sovereignty of the United States as a nation, would eliminate all our rights. Notice the Globalists NEVER mention voting for it? That is because they intend to impose it, and we’ll have no more God-given rights than serfs.

Wake-up! Look at what the life-long career of Cruz has been, mostly as a member of the Bush family cabal. Do not listen to what he says; study what he has actually done. He is no Patriot.

My point was that Trump is pulling more conservatives than Cruz based upon vote tallies and polls. And I fully agree that Trump has much broader appeal.

You may have missed the point of my post. It wasn’t specifically that Trump is or isn’t good or bad for America, or Cruz either. My post wasn’t supporting or condemning either candidate, and it wasn’t comparing either one of them to Reagan.

The point I was making is that the Left (which includes the Democrat Party, Media, and even some Republicans, IMO) is deliberately stoking the fires of invective which maintains Trump is evil, and is doing so to achieve a specific goal, which is to pit Republicans and conservatives against each other, muddy the waters, and poison the wells of political non-liberal thought and discourse.

Make no mistake: If Cruz was the leading candidate right now, do you doubt, for even a single moment that the invective levied against him would be any less poisonous?

It wouldn’t. The content might be different, but the level of vituperation would be the same.

The point I was trying to make is the internecine divisiveness we see right here in this conservative forum is right up the Left’s alley. If Trump falls behind, the Leftists are going to attack Cruz in exactly the same way.

I took the time to post in order to caution people against using the logic so willingly and profusely provided by the Left to disparage our own candidates. That is why they create and disseminate it so generously.

At a more simplistic level, we can thank Ann Coulter (I know she is often persona non grata around here these days, but I think it is relevant) for her observation that, in the media, conservatives are painted in one of three ways:

1.) Evil (examples: Nixon, Buchanan, Goldwater, Gingrich, and most likely, Cruz)

2.) Stupid (examples: Reagan, Eisenhower and George H.W. Bush)

3.) Evil and Stupid (Examples: George W. Bush, McCarthy, and most likely Trump)

Full disclosure: I voted for Perot in 1992, but if you look at my Freeper Page, you will probably see the main reason why. As for Perot himself, he may have been a crazy Texas loon, but he loved his country, no denying that. And in retrospect, I do see my vote for him as a mistake, but...like today, the alternatives aren’t great.

It’s a crystal clear moment showing that government as now constituted has no intention of addressing the issues plaguing the country today. None. We get it. The mask is off. The lies ring hollow.
