The scene was violent and chaotic: protesters being forcibly removed from a rally for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The image reinforced a common complaint that police can be callous toward the free-speech rights of demonstrators when seeking to preserve order. […]

Any such event, from a political rally to an NFL game, needs police present, said Jon Shane, an assistant professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. …

Well if a violent group of thugs show up to your private party, hopefully the police will show up as well and disperse the crowd, and no, the person throwing the party should not have to pay extra for this either.

Personally, I think Soros should pay for the police at Trump’s rallies. After all, he is paying for the demonstrators who cause the trouble! (and has anyone noticed there have been no protestors at Cruz rallies? Not passing judgment on their intentions, just an observation)

The professional protesters are being targeted at Trump because he is the real threat to the left’s agenda.

Let’s remember that these events poor money into these cities. And in most cases great publicity. Democrat lead cities often the exception.

If the “protestors” don’t bar access, don’t assault people, and other people’s free speech, then there is no need for police.

If they do bar access, assault people, or inhibit other’s rights, then arrest them. That his what the police are for. Then you can fine them to offset the costs of enforcement.

Of course, police forces are larger than they need to be on the average day, because there are days when more police are needed. Riots would qualify as one of those days.

What does piss me off, is when a politician flies into town and gets a 100 car escort with police closing down all lanes and lining the route for miles. That is total BS. I don’t even know why local police departments agree to such crap.

I believe I read back before Iowa that Trump folks were paying municipalities for the extra costs of security

“...and has anyone noticed there have been no protestors at Cruz rallies?”

Well golly gee! Sounds like the protestors may be a bit racist towards crackers! Who’d a thunk it?

toward the free-speech rights of demonstrators

Whose goal is to deny the right of free speech to those they disagree with.

It is my understanding that at private events, the police get paid by the one holding the event.

I believe it was for the overtime and other expenses. And Trump’s payment was prompt and in full.

Unlike Hillary Who still hasn’t payed up, and probably, never will.

The police should bill the groups organizing the violent protests.

A political rally is a private event. If the opposition wishes to exercise their right to free speech then they should organize their own rally, not disrupt someone else's.

There’s an idea- charge a permit fee to hold an organized protest and ask to see their papers when they show up or when they get dragged out
