The outcome of a contested Republican convention could rest with the rules committee.
Made up of convention delegates, this group of about 100 grassroots Republicans will consider and approve the package of rules governing how the nomination of the party's presidential standard-bearer will be processed on the floor in Cleveland. In a possible battle for 1,237 delegates between Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and John Kasich, the candidate that influences the rules committee could position themselves for victory in a vote of delegates on the convention floor.
"I'm sure right now, every campaign is scrambling to find [delegates] to get on the rules committee," said Curly Haugland, the Republican National Committeeman from North Dakota who has served on past convention rules committees.

"Without a presumptive nominee to oversee the process, delegates on the panel would be the subject of intense lobbying by the campaigns to craft regulations governing the convention that might undermine their competitors in the floor vote."
So if I understand it should only take about $100 - $150 million dollars to own the rules commitee, correct.
Lots of Republicans are mad already, because the Republican Party hasn’t worked to stop the current Administration from such nonsense. Does the Republican Party realize, if they go against millions of people who already voted for Trump, they will lose the election? The people I talk to say they are sick of the media picking Presidents and the Republican Party better respect Trump voters. This election is now between three people: Trump, Cruz or Hillary. Usually, the party should rally around the person with the most votes and delegates in the primaries.
I'm on it.
Why do people get upset when politics gets political?
DC Machine
Hey Delegate buddy ol pal.
This is DC. I need you to commit poltical suicide at the Cleveland Convention by giving your voters back home the finger.
Yeah that is really going to work out well for the GOP down ticket in Nov 2016.
Do they really want to go against a man who wrote one of the best selling business books of all time?
Not the case at all. Once the convention convenes, the 2012 rules expire. Then the rules committee can do whatever they damned well please.....and THAT rule they ain't changin'.
Silly Republican, and you thought you had a say.
Membership on the rules committee will be controlled by the Cruz and Trump campaigns. Both have stated that they will freeze out Kasich he he coninues with his folly.
If they craft rules that would freeze out Kasich, those same rules would also freeze out such dreamers as Paul Ryan, Mittens Romeny, Rick Perry and Little Marco.
well worth the investment. Great benefits, free housing for when the economy fails and you loose all your property?
Wait a minute - haven't the Trump supporters been saying forever that it is wrong to changes the rules right before the convention?
I can’t stand OFFICE politics let alone 100 million government workers. I do like Marine Corps boots though.
wow. New rules each election. Talk about flexible.
better find the links! LOL
Rule 50 is likely to freeze out Kasich already with no changes needed. (winning majority delegates in 8 states)
This article is of possible interest to you.
Just to be clear -
The Convention Rules Committee decisions have to be approved by a majority of convention delegates just like the winning nominee.
Most states have not finalized convention delegates.
FReepers, get involved in any way you can with selecting your state’s delegates. Contact your favorite candidate’s state campaign and ask them about vetting delegates. It’s time to suspend confidence in conspiracy theories and do something in person besides an anonymous vote in a booth. Put up or shut up!
Honestly, the GOP is about to render itself extinct.
Apres that, the deluge.
worth it's own "How-To" thread, eh?
