Live From SxSW: Putting An End To Gun Violence

Gun violence dominated national headlines this past year. If it seemed as if you heard about another shooting incident every day, you were not far off. In 2015, the U.S. did not go for more than eight days without a mass shooting. Yet gun control remains a highly divisive issue. But what if social entrepreneurship could offer answers?

"This year, the number of deaths from gun violence is expected to exceed the number of car fatalities,” Margot Hirsch, president of the Smart Tech Challenges Foundation (STCF), a nonprofit focused on reducing gun violence through technology and innovation, pointed out at a SXgood Story session. As such gun violence is a serious public health issue, more data needs to be collected and analyzed just as is done for auto safety. However, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is prohibited from doing research on gun violence, in part due to pressure from the National Rifle Association (NRA). Even though NRA membership makes up a very small percentage of gun owners (4 percent), they exercise enormous authority into public policy around gun control.

"social entrepreneurship" Yup, what can't social media do? Same old screed. Including the amendment mentioned kinda about the "right to drive" and how the cdc gathers data for that. Sounds like it's right out of the "Gun Violence Messaging Guide Book". But if this came out of sxsw, it MUST be valid. Right?

The CDC is a private company( not a government agency) and they can do whatever they want.

Nope.

Gun deaths from suicide? Technology cannot change that.

Gun deaths from thugs shooting other thugs? Again, there is nothing technology could do for that.

Gun deaths from decent people shooting thugs in self-defense? Those are the gun deaths liberals want to prevent, but those are part of the reason our God-given individual right to keep and bear arms cannot be infringed.

Gun deaths from carelessness? Those can be fixed to some extent, but the government and the elite ruling class should have no role in that process. I don’t trust them in any way, on any issue.

Nope. The CDC is an agency under the Department of Health and Human Services. It's a dotGov agency.

“....they can do whatever they want.” A lot easier when you got beacoup bucks from the tax payers footin’ the bill.

The last thing I want is technology introduced to my perfectly functional mechanical firearms...at least the one that remains following the tragic boating accident I had last month.

My darn iPhone very often does not recognize my fingerprints if my hands are very cold or if I just exited the shower. We do not need our firearms similarly getting "moody" on us in such a scenario.

From the article:

“Design made a big difference in how the program was received. Instead of the standard circle design or the venue of a courthouse, youth met with members of the community and law enforcement in a square town hall creating a physical atmosphere of being on same level, without the negative connotation association with law enforcement.”

What?

hildaspeak gobbledee goop. Words without meaning. Well, to some of us. I’m sure the more astute personages completely understood the verbiage being used.

Yes, disarming the victims of “gun violence” will stop the shootings. We all have seen those evil guns driving around in cars in various ‘hoods, enforcing turf with drive by shootings. We have all seen guns, on their own, walk into businesses to rob them. Right! No thinking in this talking point publication — just emotional Bravo Sierra. Garbage in, garbage out. The authors are firm believers that you can pick up a turd by the clean end.

Nonsense. Every one of us here knows how all of our computers and devices are invariably infallible, never having any glitches. [Sarc off]

“This year, the number of deaths from gun violence is expected to exceed the number of car fatalities...”

Only if you include gang bangers killing each other, and other deliberate murders.

This is an immensely popular and quite deliberate lie from the anti-firearms crowd.

I did notice they missed on the “mass shootings” number as well. I believe the common mommunist screed is every 8 minutes or something like that. Not every 8 days. Geez. You would think they’d get their “statistics” straight.

You need to edit Wikipedia:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the leading national public health institute of the United States. The CDC is a federal agency under the Department of Health and Human Services and is headquartered in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, a few miles northeast of the Atlanta city limits.[2][3][4]

And the CDC website:

Today, CDC is one of the major operating components of the Department of Health and Human Serves and is recognized as the nation’s premiere health promotion, prevention, and preparedness agencies.

How about putting an end to unjust aggression by people? Guns do not get violent. Guns are a tool and can be used for good or bad. The unjust aggressor is the problem.

Everyone who wants to protect their 2nd Amendment rights need to read that paper. It is a detailed planning document by the Left to attack our right to bear arms and it’s filled with detail of their tactics, techniques, and arguments to further restrict firearms possession.

Know your enemy.

“If it seemed as if you heard about another shooting incident every day, “

Except those in Chicago. Where apparently they had no shootings because none made it on the news.

Want to solve a lot of gun violence: Stop paying people to feed, breed and vote Democrat.
Political Correctness stops us from solving problems.....not that either party actually WANTS to solve them...

(Patting the Glock 19 on my hip) I’ve got your “social entrepreneurship” right here, SXSW commielibs. You try to take my firearms and render me socially naked, and I’m going into the business of fighting back with deadly force.
