The extension displayed a popup on October 1 saying that it is now allowing EyeOs acceptable advertising which allows advertisers to buy their way onto the whitelist through the filter.

I have recommended adblock a number of times but noticed when the last update which happened last week that I was seeing ads. And now I know why.
They are co-opted.
I am now trying Ghostary. Are there other adblocking extensions available that our techs recommend?
Hmm, I noticed once last week that ADBLOCK allowed a series of ads celebrating International Wymyn’s Day.
I am not amused. Whatever they paid to co-opt AdBlock, it was too much. It’s users are proficient enough and motivated enough to take the initiative and install AdBlock. Users will defect to a program that still works.
I use uBlock Origin.
Here is the link to the Firefox plug-in:

Thanks for the heads-up
uBlock Origin
In the comments on the article, uBlock Origin was recommended.

From link:
uBlock Origin is NOT an “ad blocker”: it is a wide-spectrum blocker — which happens to be able to function as a mere “ad blocker”. The default behavior of uBlock Origin when newly installed is to block ads, trackers and malware sites — through EasyList, EasyPrivacy, Peter Lowes ad/tracking/malware servers, various lists of malware sites, and uBlock Origin’s own filter lists.
Ghostery isn’t really designed to block ads. It’s more designed to block trackers.
I don’t mind ads, so long as they just sit there and don’t flash or talk or block anything else.
I use: uBlock Origin
Blocking bump.
Just linked over to a story on the UK's Daily Mirror, for example, and watched 109 trackers tally up, after whitelisting. An eye-opener for those who don't quite get how the whole cookie thing rolls.
Adblocker has been a great tool, preventing the auto-loading of videos, especially on Breitbart, to name just one site. Before, I had to quit going there, there were so many of these obnoxious ads.
And, yes, I get the revenue stream appeals, but if I wanted to watch television, and have my wits scrambled, by laundry soap ads, I would watch SyFy all day.
Thanks for the Heads Up!
No one expects the advertising inquisition!
(sigh)
would this be of interest to the Tech Ping list?
Fortunately, I use Adblock Plus, not Adblock, so no worries here. With that and Ghostery installed I rarely have to see any unwanted adverts. :)

It’s worth noting, this is NOT the same as AdBlock Plus. ABP is run by Wladimir Palant and is a non-profit. This only affects Chrome users, really. If you’re using Firefox and not using ABP, you should start using it now.
Not only that, but it has thrown me off of FR several times when enabled. Anyone else?
Note this article is dated October, 2015.
Would be handy if OP added “from Oct,2015” to title.
Easy to assume this just happened.
