Mika mocks Cruz’s mannerisms: ‘cartoon character, oozes insincerity.’

Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.

My two cents: I admire Cruz’s steadfast conservatism, but I do wish he would get more real.

I'm afraid that's not possible. He's by his very nature a smarmy, oleaginous, and insincere person who is loathed by virtually of those who know him personally. I don't care if he's the greatest conservative to have ever lived, I don't want an insufferable a-hole like that as president.

Most Free Republic members are too young to remember the Nixon-Kennedy election. It is important in choosing a candidate to support. Nixon was superior to Kennedy in every respect, save one and it was decisive. Kennedy was media savvy and had a persona which was very media friendly. Nixon had an odd physical appearance and had off-putting mannerisms which were visible on TV especially during the debates. Nixon should have won in a landslide but lost in a squeaker (with a little help from the Daley machine in Chicago). Without getting into Ted’s alleged sinless conservative perfection (which is eminently debatable) from a media persona perspective, he is much more like Nixon than Reagan. Many voters will make decisions based on subliminal, nonverbal impressions on TV. Ted may very well lose in the general election if can’t project a more likable, attractive image on TV.
