Sen. Ted Cruz said Monday he could see inviting presidential campaign opponents Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Ohio Gov. John Kasich into his cabinet in Washington -- and he also said he could see circumstances where he would not support front-runner Donald Trump as the nominee.
The conservative Texan has been repeatedly asked about whether he would support Trump if the mogul ends up winning the primary. Despite a the presence of the "Never Trump" movement within the Republican Party, candidates have been quick to say they will support the Republican nominee.
But speaking with reporters in Illinois on Monday, Cruz did say there was a scenario he wouldn't get behind Trump.
"I can give you one example where I would no longer support Donald Trump -- if, for example, he were to go out on Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, I would not be willing to support Donald Trump," Cruz said.

This isn’t about the establishment vs. the base. This is about a major civil war in the GOP.
At the moment, on one side you have (1)conservatives like me who care deeply about small government and the constitution and view Trump as a dangerous demagogue joining forces with (2) the parts of the establishment who fear what Trump would do to our foreign and trade policy and fear the anger and nativism that some of his supporters are motivated by.
On the other side, you have (1) a coalition of conservatives who are so angry at the establishment that they care more about burning down the system than they do about the constitution or small government principles joining forces with (2) single issue independents and democrats whose number one issue is immigration, and (3) the members of the establishment who are opportunistic like Christie, think Trump will win, and want to be on the winning side
Well, at least this is something that will never take place. Cruz will not be the nominee.
“Smart Move. ...thats what wed hear if the shoe was on the other foot”
I’d immediately be looking for someone outside the current group of candidates if Trump said he’d consider either of those amnesty enthusiasts.
Yeah, Cruz is a full butted conservative.
I do not understand the propensity from candidates or from some on FR to think a Republican administration needs to be comprised of all the already-rejected, also-rans to be successful.
News flash - just because you won, doesn’t mean you’re compelled to hire every single loser the voters rejected for the job you got. In fact, it might be better if you didn’t. There probably is a really good reason the voters rejected them. And you’d certainly look more like your own person without the whole gang hanging around. Yes, there are some good people running, but I’ve seen scenarios proposed on FR where just about all the major pubbie candidates had a spot at the table. Why can’t we just admit some of them really don’t belong in a Trump or Cruz administration?
1) support two amnesty loons in the cabinet.
2) acknowledges that Cruz represents nothing but the Gope anti-Trump group.
He want to buy their delegates.
“Smart Move. ...thats what wed hear if the shoe was on the other foot”
Again with the “ justify what you actually dont like by citing fantasy alternate scenario of what is assumed others would say” post.
Why dont you just tell us if YOU support what Cruz said here.
Cruz is knee-deep in his own grave and just keeps digging.
It’s sad to see what has happened to a man I once viewed as a true patriot and leader of the conservative movement in America.
A new reason to vote for Ted. Why should I vote for him based on everything before this? After 6 months I shouldn’t need new reasons. He is my second choice and I have no problem voting for him in the GE. But hard to call him trusTed - a better logo would be obfuscaTed, or conflaTed, maybe even constipateTed
One of Trump’s marketing strengths is that his message doesn’t change. His speeches since August when I started watching often have varied but cover the same topics: immigration. economy. trade. jobs. negotiation. leadership. and the same slogan “Make America Great Again”. Like him or not he’s got the “message thing” down.
He swaps in a new enemy when it comes up (Nabisco, Ford, Carrier) but covers the same topics with the same message. Very relevant to voters and current and frequently show to be right as another company leaves.
I’d bet Trump supporters can recite his issues and stances at a much higher rate than other candidate supporters. The comfort that comes with that is a big marketing asset. It also helps when someone tries a “war on women” attack. That’s not his issue and supporters skip over it since they know his issues and it’s not there. If they aren’t comfortable in his issues then the attack is “more information” that should be considered.
I’ve seen all debates but the only things I remember about Kasich is that his dad was a mailman and he “did it in DC. then did it in Ohio. and will do it again” (whatever it is this week - budget is one but I think there are others)
Trump needs to work with McConnell and Ryan to draft the Americans with Yuge EGO’s Disability ACT.
Cruz is doing everything he can to gather the voters from the candidates who dropped - it’s good strategy. I hope each of the candidates has a ‘three deep’ list of possible cabinet appointees and has worked out how it will benefit their agenda if/when they get elected.
If they don’t they are not fit for the office and they would make very poor coaches.
sounds like you are more anti-Trump than pro-CRuz.
He should put Rubio in his closet, that way he can come out of it.
No, they will not pick him. But this does tell me Teddy Cruz has no problem with amnesty.
I heard he’s also considering Valerie Jarrett as his VP. I mean at this point.. why not? It might bring him some votes to STOP TRUMP and isn’t that what this is all about? Scorched earth policy?
Sounds like a little RINO cuddle fest.
