Berlin police have launched a murder inquiry after car bomb exploded in a travelling vehicle, killing the driver.
The explosion occurred as the car moved through the western Charlottenburg district towards the centre. It flipped the vehicle into the air, police said. They have identified the victim as a 43-year-old man of immigrant background.
Officials believe the blast was linked to organised crime and say there is no evidence of any link with terrorism.

Ich ein Boom!
They were invited in...
I live in Germany, so I’ve followed the story since it occurred this morning.
What the cops will say that the guy has some connection to organized crime in Berlin. They won’t say that he’s a Russian or whatever.
Typically, if you did something to dishonor some in the German crime syndicate....they’d just come...grab you and make you disappear (in some old salt mine or in some river). In this case, they wanted it as a lesson for others.
Oddly, it may start up a turf war, and with the state election in Berlin about five months away...this little episode might get brought up weekly as the war escalates.
Thanks for your insight on this. Did the car bomb angle surprise you? Are car bombs not an uncommon thing in Germany?
In the US, you sometimes see such things in gangster movies, but not in real life. Here, it’s almost always the bullet. But that’s another sad story.
Which should read:
"They have identified the perpetrator as another F***ing Mulsim kook that Idiots in our government allowed to infiltrate into our society. "
If the bomb was intended to kill the driver, I would have expected it to go off as soon as he turned on the engine. It also seemed a much bigger bomb than would be needed to kill just the driver.
It seems more likely that this was a “work accident”, and the driver intended the bomb to go off after he parked it on some crowded street.
Over in France, you see car-burnings...where some punks go through a neighborhood and set fire to cars....maybe a couple....maybe a dozen...in one night.
In Germany, with car-bombings? I don’t think there’s been one in thirty years...when the Red Army Faction was active (late 80s). Around 1996 in Frankfurt, there was a church-bombing around Xmas...killing three people. No one ever owned up that that episode.
That’s what makes this an odd thing. Normally, if you’ve screwed up with the mafia or some organized crime group...they just make you disappear. There would be no public situation like this.
Either that, or the guy had made up a bomb himself for some other target, and he just screwed up with it jostling around in the car.
You would suspect it’d be a dirt-simple deal when he started it. Why set it for some delay or some timed deal?
Perhaps his bomb got an unexpected call?

“Police found an ISIS banner, an AK47, literature saying death to unbelievers, instructions on building bombs written in Arabic, pictures of Osama bin Laden, fake passports from Libya, Syria and Iran and a cell phone detonator. The authorities say there is no reason to believe the incident is related to terrorism and are searching for a motive.”
I suppose that when the driver’s name is released, things will become a bit clearer.
Berlin News says the car belonged to someone else....other than the guy who was driving and dead.
There’s also some chatter in Berlin over hostilities between the local Hell’s Angels and the Bandidos (guns used in the past and hand grenades). Cops don’t connect the two gangs to this but it’s not normal for Russian mafia to car-bomb someone that they have a problem with.
