The Maryland state senate begins hearings Wednesday on the Maryland Healthy Vending Act.
The bill requires 75% of the items in vending machines on property owned or managed by the state to meet healthy standards. [
]
The legislation not only mandates the carrying of healthy snack choices, but also mandates the stocking of the vending machine in a manner where healthy options are in a position with the highest selling potential.

...because people are completely incapable of buying the “unhealthy” items and leaving behind the “healthy” items, regardless of placement.

Might as well take the machines out now. If nobody buys the items, the vendor will lose money.

Now this is fascism.
Privately owned, but effectively ruled by govt mandate and regulation.

The Nannies won’t ever give up their utopian schemes...
If people WANTED “health” vending, the free market would already have provided it.
This “law” will only run legitimate business people OUT of business and run the workers that keep the machines filled out of their jobs.
I’m getting to where I HATE government.

Healthy snacks in a vending machine??
Something else to consider,is how long items stay in a vending machine before sale. If an apple or banana or any fresh fruit stays too long, nobody will want it anyway.
Sounds like nanny stateism carried too far.
To: Olog-hai
I’d put good money on what is called ‘healthy’ is in fact not healthy.

Exactly. It's a shame that so few people understand that this is the true meaning of the word.

So the vending industry will have to make profit from the 25% to subsidize the 75% .
To: Secret Agent Man
And when the vending machine owners go bust, the gov’t will not accept any blame.

To: Rusty0604
That is the point of fascism. Criticism is’insulated from govt because govt doesn’t own the business.
It also gives govt a pretext to take over ‘failed’ businesses the govt wants.

Just radiate them and pump them full of preservatives, and they will probably last a good while.
