Trump 'fundamentally breaks' the GOP: Ex-Bush 43 aide
CNBC ^ | March 11, 2016 | Tom DiChristopher

The Republican Party needs candidates to stay in the presidential race in order to force a brokered convention and deny front-runner Donald Trump the nomination, a former senior aide to President George W. Bush said Friday.

That strategy will surely alienate some of Trump's supporters, said Sara Fagen, now a partner at public affairs firm DDC. But while Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who trails Trump in the delegate count, would have a tough time against Hillary Clinton in a general election, he would keep the core of the party together, she added.

"Donald Trump fundamentally breaks the Republican Party, and it is not the same party moving forward ever again," she told CNBC's "Squawk Box." "That is a worse prospect for most Republicans than Ted Cruz or a weakened Marco Rubio or some other scenario."

Fagen said it is possible but unlikely that a Republican with "enormous stature" like 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney or House Speaker Paul Ryan would be put forward if Trump enters the Republican National Convention without the required number of delegates to lock up the nomination.

Is the establishment that deluded? Do they really think that ROMNEY!!!!! has great stature with party members. If ever there was a case of holding your nose, it was with Romney!

Very true! But I did like him better than McLame!

The thing that rings so hollow about these people is that they speak as though sans Trump, all things are hunky dory for the Republicans at the national level. Fact is, they haven’t really had a strong Presidential victory since Reagan. Bush I rode Reagan’s coattails and was then promptly denied reelection, Bush II didn’t win the popular vote the first time, and barely squeaked by the second, only to leave office four years later basically as a failure.

The GOPe as it is currently constituted, is not only unRepublican, it is unAmerican. Clearly these people would have been on the side of the Royalists and not the Founders.

Sounds like they are campaigning for Trump in that statement.

This paragraph says all we need to know about this person:

Fagen said it is possible but unlikely that a Republican with "enormous stature" like 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney or House Speaker Paul Ryan would be put forward if Trump enters the Republican National Convention without the required number of delegates to lock up the nomination.

“Screw the Republican Party! I am concerned about America, not Republican Elites.”

Exactly right. This is about the country not the GOPe.

I'm with you. We have been screwed by both the Democrats and the Republicans. Millions of Americans have had enough. Trump for President. He may not have all the solutions but with new blood advisers I really think that America would be on the road back. We have been destroyed so much that it will take years to see the great America come back.

Sara Fagen says Mittens has “enormous stature?”

I’m just howling with laughter - she’s making my insides hurt. When it comes to Mittens, that’s not quite what I think about him.

Establishment types like Fagen are clueless dolts.

God save us from the GOP’s Mittenses and Ryans.

Please just STFU and go away and while that’s the case, the Sara Fagens of the world can refrain from inflicting their unsolicited advice on us.

No way in hell do I want Mittens as the Republican standard-bearer, ever again!

Romney and Ryan have “enormous stature”?

These people are so out of touch. If Trump can destroy the gop I’m all for it. Hopefully articles like this will open some of the Cruz supporters’ eyes.

Reagan waited until the last minute to “endorse” Bush. It as at the convention speech when he said “Win one for the Gipper.”

I don’t see breaking the GOP as a bug. It is a feature.

I have been a Republican all my life. It has been a long love affair going back to Nixon. I never cheated on them, worked hard for GOP candidates and had blind loyalty to all GOP politicians and candidates.

However, the GOP began cheating on us. I started becoming turned off by them when they took control of Congress in 94. They showed no will to fight because evidently they were compromised. Them we finally got total control of the WH, Senate and House and what did we get? TSA, Open Borders, bigger deficits and an invasion of Iraq that cost us over 4k lives.

I never thought I would see the day when I turn my back on my party but they left me. Our GOP leadership is worthless and need to go.

Go Trump!
