Leading Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said during Thursday night's GOP debate in Miami that he had spoken with former presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson for more than an hour about education and that Carson would be "very involved with education, something that's an expertise of his," in a Trump administration.
He stopped short, however, of specifying exactly what role Carson would have if Trump were to be elected. Carson was expected to endorse Trump during a press conference on Friday.
Trump's comments came in response to a question about the Common Core State Standards, which Trump said he wants to get rid of, along with the U.S. Department of Education.
As far as Carson and education goes, "he has such a great handle on it," Trump said according to a Washington Post transcript. "He wants competitive schools. He wants a lot of different things that are terrific, including charter schools, by the way, that the unions are fighting like crazy. But charter schools work, and they work very well."

“How insightful.”
I can actually be very insightful, in truth. It is just odd to me that someone who was verbally destroyed would jump on the bandwagon. To jump in being told that he would be in charge of education when just last night, trump said he would get rid of the Dept of Ed. With no explanation or “insight” as to what would replace it.
It is the same rhetoric. Say whatever gets people to applaud but never express any insight on how any of these systems will work. Except that it will be a deal. A big deal. Done by someone who knows how to make deals. Very big deals.
That would be pplgredients!
Memory hole. Like the grain Pyramids. Trump maketh all things good.
“Donald Trump Compares Ben Carson To A ‘Child Molester’”
Carson might be a good choice for reforming and then moving forward the VA hospital system.
I was waiting to see what kind of deal was made between DT and carson when CNN started the drop out rumor, Steve King (owed DT) working with Cruz retweeted and the stuff hit the wall. I have a gold plated tin foil hat.
“Why don’t you take your pathologies elsewhere...or just crawl back under a rock”
Meh.... Good discussion point.
See post #65

You must not have a phone or tablet to type on. They like to randomly autocorrect words that shouldn’t be corrected.
Maybe you can join the 21st century and experience the frustration of it like everyone else.
The one thing that can be understood by most people is removing centralized control of education--and dismantling the DOE...
Why are dopey liberal pinheads like you allowed to post here?
That’s my question...
Good, Carson will be excellent in President Trump’s administration, as will Christie and Rudy.
Why do we need a secretary of Education when the Department should be disbanded? It does not educate anyone.
Trump said “role” in education, not Sec. of Education.
Or head of HHS!
“Why are dopey liberal pinheads like you allowed to post here?”
Ha! Standard reply! Thank you. If someone does not see things exactly the way you do, they must be a liberal! Good argument, sir! Well said. Speaks volumes....
I just remember all the horrid things Trump said about Dr. Carson when Carson was closing in the campaign. I guess Dr. Carson hates Cruz more than Trump because Cruz retweeted something from CNN.
In honesty, Dr. Carson is playing the numbers game. He thinks Trump has the best shot to win the nomination - which is obvious - and Trump has offered him something.
It is what it is. His endorsement is a big get form Trump.
I hope Trump will add Cruz to his ticket. That is the only way I can see not writing in another candidate. I think Cruz might balance the ticket and help him be more constitutionally oriented. We will see. I also would kind of like seeing the anti-Canadians reactions on my facebook list. :-)
I sure would try. With a Republican majority in both houses, I would push to shut down that department and several others and would have it done as soon as I signed the bill. The fed employees could then quit or be transferred to border security.
Is that not the definition of transition??? There don’t need to be federal mandates, but the states could use guidelines/suggestions. DOE won’t shut down one day and the next day states function independently. That transition would again be helped by Carson.
You were lying about what Trump said and I called you on it...now you’re trying to engineer a graceful exit.
Good luck with that you dopey liberal troll.
