For years, Andrew F. Puzder, the CEO of CKE Restaurants, the parent company of the Carl's Jr. and Hardee's fast-food chains, has been telling the world that while the U.S. government makes life needlessly miserable for businesses, California, where it has been headquartered, is exponentially worse.
This week, CKE announced that it is moving its headquarters to Nashville, Tennessee. A story at the Orange County Register failed to go beyond the company's deliberately non-combative statement to explain why. As far as I can tell, the Los Angeles Times hasn't covered the move at all (I can't be absolutely sure because the paper's search engine is demonstrably horrible). Meanwhile, LA's CBS News affiliate appears to have intentionally omitted their reporter's attempt to cite "the unfavorable economic climate here in California" as a factor contributing to the move from its print coverage of the story.
In June 2013, Puzder told the Wall Street Journal that his chain would not expand in California because the state "is not interested in having businesses grow," noting among many other things that it takes 285 days to get a building permit after signing a lease. This means the chain has to pay rent for over nine months, plus the time needed to build, while not earning any revenues.

I’d like a bite of that!
I don’t go to fast food much. There is a lot of competition.
In n Out is superior in all aspects.
Carls has chili cheese fries, I think last time I went there was to get those for my daughter.
For the 3.9% increase in sales tax, I would have to make $54,000 more than I am making now and spend all of it. So, yeah, it is a good deal for the locals who work and earn wages. Not so good for visitors and those who live off government checks.
Hardee’s serve the best burgers! They still taste like MEAT and NOT CARDBOARD!..................I do miss their Buffalo Burgers, though. I guess they weren’t a big seller....................
I guess he's telling them!......................
LOL I had to scroll back up to see what you meant.
“From the time they get up in the morning and flush the toilet, they’re taxed. Then they go and get the cup of coffee, they’re taxed....This goes on all day long. Tax, tax, tax.” Arnold Schwarzeneggar
That’s true. That’s what happens when you don’t have a state income tax. They only tax you when you spend money. Save it and you’re gold.
“I dont find her attractive at all, and no, Im not gay.”
Those double negatives always confuse me.
Actually, I do have some Portugal bonds yielding 22%. I wish I had bought more. No Greek bonds. I have a smattering of PR bonds...all paying: CUSIPS 74514LTL1 and 74529JLN3. Not too happy about my 74514LWZ6 and 74514LWA1. Bought those at 77 and they are trading around 62. HOWEVER, they have paid, and as the old saying goes, “The day they pay, they’re AAA!”
Dallas (or more likely Plano or the mid-Cities) is a more likely location for In-n-Out. There are about 20 in the Metroplex and another 7 scattered down I-35.
Phoenix would be another option, with 17 locations and another 7 down I-10.
Not just the french bread guy. See the other two guys standing in the background.
The bread guy did hit the lottery though. Over and over and over again.
Because they need to relocate where English is the first language.
Ed
yeah, a threat against freedom. So much for the Constitution’s Freedom of Movement protections.
Sigh. Wish I was 18 again.
