Cruz is smelling more and more like warmed over Bush.

Looks like 18-14 delegate allocation. Not official. Could change a bit.

Rubio third at 18% needs 20% to get any delegates.

Congrats to Cruz for his Idaho win. Cruz has now won 7 states, Rubio what two plus a territory and Trump has won 14 states. Le’t see what Hawaii holds.

Idaho awards 32 delegates on a proportional basis.

Sort of. According to GreenPapers.com, Idaho has a 20% threshold to be awarded any delegates. They also have a rule that if any candidate wins more than 50% of the delegates (not 50% of the popular vote) then they win all of the delegates.

So right now, only two candidates have more than 20% of the vote in Idaho. That means that as of right now, Cruz is winning more than 50% of the delegates. If that is the way the night ends, Trump gets no delegates from Idaho. That would mean that after winning Michigan and Mississippi, Trump would have fewer delegates than Cruz for the night, even before the voting in Hawaii.

Ironically enough, Trump's only hope to come out of tonight with the most delegates is to root for Rubio to break 20% in Idaho.

Can’t say I’m surprised. Idaho has a definite theocratic vibe to it.

Good for Rafael, it would be disappointing to lose Idaho, it being so close to his birth place in Calgary and all.

I believe the current delegate count is:

Trump: 446
Cruz: 347
Rubio: 151
Kasich: 54

Hoping Rubio drops out; don’t think Kasich ever will...

kik - a word to the wise.

You should have declared this a Cruz celebration thread.

It would have removed a lot of the snarking.

It's your prerogative to have an "open" thread, but I just realized this is a Cruz win thread, so congratulations to your guy.

With no reservations. :)

And Rubio used to be a Mormon. A Mormon/Catholic/Baptist can’t win in Idaho. Probably can’t win anywhere.

I was actually in Idaho once, back in the 1980s. Went hiking off in some area, there was a lot of wildlife and I found these huge antlers just laying there in a field. Took them all the way back by hand to the rent a car. And I still have them tuday. Beautiful place, Idaho.

Not sure why I am telling you all this or what it has to do with this post, other than I recall mostly not seeing other humans much, like low population. So I don’t get the delegate total count unless a lot of people moved there during the oil boom.

Now it’s an oil bust per barrel, and a lot of job losses.

So I think folks are now leaving Idaho due to the bust, though potatoes are still big there and there is some gold. So I think the population is dropping again.

So doesn’t Idaho award too many delegates in proportion to the population? I mean 32 seems too high to me.

I would think the total vote count would be so low that Cruz and Trump would just split the delegates, even if Cruz wins by 10 but Rubio is under 20%. Meaning like 14 to 10. Sort of funny. I think if Idaho has 32, Michigan should have more than 59 or Idaho less than 32.
