Is paying for the BBB membership good for your company? That is a decision you will have to carefully make after reading further
While the Better Business Bureau seems to do a good job at exposing some fraudulent business practices, its methods of accrediting businesses are borderline mafia-style and bully-like in a sense. For example, one media outlet wrote: The Better Business Bureau is a Mafia-Like Racket that uses blackmail and coercion to set its bogus ratings and even defamed a law firm for refusing to submit to its shakedown methods, claiming a $200 Million complaint against the bureau in Los Angeles.... Businesses caught up in this Mafia-like racket have used terms such as shakedown, criminal, illegal, immoral, and unjust when they find out the truth about the BBB, and how their businesses are affected by this fraudulent organization.
Another source (Orlando Sentinel) claims that the KEL Law Firm sued the Better Business Bureau over rating system. The suit alleges the rating system is flawed, erroneous, misleading and, in short, anything but the unbiased process the BBB claims in its promotional material.

Here’s another point of view about whether the BBB really is worth the controversy Megyn Kelly wants to cause.
Well, that explains why they are for Cruz
Thank you! Been pointing out the 20/20 investigation of BBB and their ‘pay for ratings’ tactics, as well as CNN investigation finding the same thing.
Trump has again exposed another corrupt organization.
Thank you, Trump!
trump bragged about the bogus rating, it’s important to him
I had a BBB membership about 10 years ago. I got the distinct impression they just wanted my money for nothing.
BBB is bought and paid for by the companies they promote

20 or 30 years ago — maybe. Or for companies that get most of their business from advertising in the yellow pages.
“I had a BBB membership about 10 years ago. I got the distinct impression they just wanted my money for nothing.”
Your first impression was spot on.
I do not know if the BBB is good for a business but I do know that it is good for one consumer.
I had problems with a new-car dealership. I contacted the BBB. That immediately got action and my satisfaction.
Tha must be satire, since trump bragged about the bogus rating
Personally, I think it’s OK to be skeptical of the BBB while acknowledging Trump University was a scam from the start.
My one and only experience with BBB was basically that they are worthless.
I’m curious.
Other than the trump campaign, is there any valid source of information left?
I’ve seen Hufpo, Politico, and even Salon saluted for being honest in recent days.
Meanwhile...
All conservative publications and radio hosts are now ‘establishment cronies’
Not that the BBB is in anyway a conservative about anything but they do have a rating system that is held out as a standard.
Disagree with the standard if you like, but Trump U. held a D- until 2013. Lawsuits are still pending.
Wasn’t Trump bragging about the rating his “University” got?
Most companies still get a large percentage of their work from the yellow pages, they simply call it the internet now. Probably a worse reference than the Yellow Pages since at least you know the yellow page advertisements cost thousands of dollars so the companies with adds are at least somewhat legit.
They’ve got quite the racket going along with their juvenile cold-calling method of ‘I’m Bob with the BBB...please call me back.’
Of course they’re sowing fear and panic to get a return call only to offer a tired old sales pitch.
Frankly, in the age of Google, Yelp, etc. they are an anachronism.
Starbucks even has a D- rating at BBB.
Worthless organization
