Florida poll: Donald Trump leads Marco Rubio (DT 38/MR 30/TC 17)
CNN ^ | 3/7/16 | Eric Bradner

(CNN)Donald Trump is leading Marco Rubio in the Florida senator's home state by 8 percentage points, a Monmouth University poll out Monday shows.

Trump has the support of 38% of Florida's likely GOP primary voters, compared to 30% who back Rubio, 17% for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and 10% for Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

The snapshot of Florida comes before the state's crucial 99-delegate, winner-take-all primary set for March 15.

It's a must-win for Rubio, who has fallen behind Trump and Cruz in the delegate race after taking only two of the first 20 Republican contests.

The poll undercuts the argument that Rubio could win if he faced Trump head-to-head: The real-estate mogul leads a one-on-one race, 47% to 45%.

The poll shows Rubio leading among Floridians who have already cast their ballots in early voting, while Trump does better with those who haven't voted yet.

What's odd is that Carsoners and Yebbers seem to be swinging to all candidates, but based on geography; ie Rubio is not persuading Zevangelicals to leave Cruz in FL, but rather gathering up loose Carsoners and Yebbers. Carson folk broke to Cruz in Kansas to some degree, but Carsoners/Yebbers would appear to be considering Kasich in Ohio and Michigan, BUT they didn't give MailmanJr the time of day in Kentucky!

Wife, Son & I voted for Trump yesterday.

Seeing lots of Trump signs & bumper stickers in Jacksonville. See a few for Bernie. Not seen a single Rubio sticker yet & he spoke to a few hundred last Saturday just a mile from us.

The GOPe & their sycophants are sure burning up a lot of $$$ to take down 1 man. Bizzarro world stuff, IMO.

If neg ads work then Trump needs to do something to save it - 8 more days of it - yikes!

Rubio’s poll numbers have been collapsing everywhere so I doubt he is anywhere near 30% in Florida.

If this poll and it’s internals are accurate, the negative ads really haven’t worked that much. Trump is way ahead with those who plan to vote but way behind in those who already have.

Cruz is actually helping Trump a lot by stepping up his Florida presence. Cruzmis more likely to pick off Rubio votes than Trump.

It certainty is. Even if Trump wins Florida by only 1% he still takes all 99 Florida delegate. Trump will win it much more than 1%; Rube is not going to beat Trump in Florida, and all the hanger-ons luck will have run out with the Winner-Take-All states coming up.

RCP for Florida

Cruz ‘surge’ in this poll is Carson’s voters going to Cruz.

Still an outlier by Monmouth. Trump only needs to win the state and Rube won’t do it in this Winner-Take-All state of Florida.

I’m not really worried about this. I expected a tight race in FL. Things will tighten up. Rubio has his home support base and he will get the empty headed anti-Trump vote here.

I don’t care if Trump wins by 1 vote. A win is a win. Its 99 delegates.

But you need to remember that Trump has consistently underperformed his polls. So if polls are showing him in single digits more than a week out, that could be real trouble for him come election day.

I am not claiming Cruz will win Florida... but all of the recent polls and the recent primaries have shown the start of a significant increase in support for Cruz. Will it be enough? We will see.

This FL poll from two days ago shows almost the same result:

If Rubio has that much support in Florida nobody I know who lives there seems to know about it.

It’s not support of Cruz or Rubio. It’s anti-Trump. I haven’t heard a single Cruz or Rubio ad running here. The party is intellectually bankrupt. The GOPe now don’t stand for anything but stopping Trump. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.

Hey here in Atlanta, Rubio took all three Metro counties, Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb.

I live here and have never met or heard of a single person that openly claims to be a Rubio supporter. Never. Not once.

If the guy held a Rally here in the three districts that he won he could maybe pull 200 people and that would be with constant A.M. Radio backing it.

You know that not in all states has Trump under performed his poll averages.

Trump exceeded his poll averages in Georgia and Alabama. It won’t matter if Trump takes Florida by 1% or 10%. This state goes to Trump like the rest of Florida neighbor states...like Alabama and Georgia. Moreover, Trump exceeded his poll average in Massachusetts.
