I agree with Root. I've been saying that Kasich is the pick that has the least downside AND has vast legislative experience. He also is young enough at 63 to weather one or two Trump administrations and then run on his own.
I would change Root's numbering of priorities.
#1 has to be the wall and illegal immigration. THAT is what makes Trump get listened to on the economy.
1. Wall
2. Economy
3. Criminal Clinton
4. Incompetent evil government
5. ObamaCare

Good general advice.
He may have to take Kasich as his GHW Bush, though I think a Cynthia Lummis would be a better electoral choice.

I think the trade deals are economic issue #1, the wall/immigration is #2.

There is a name missing here, the name of the one from-the-beginning principled conservative in the race, and whose supporters’ support will be essential for Trump to win the White House.

Kasich is a pro-amnesty, RINO, GOPe Leftist these decades.
That would be a disaster of a pick.

Bringing Kasich on board works.
Same as Reagan bringing HW Bush on board, satisfies the Establishment.

No, trade deals don’t rape and murder your daughter. The Wall is #1.

I seriously doubt Trump has interest, aptitude, or temperament to study and learn the details of all the great issues facing us. In addition, I don’t think veeps have very long coat tails. Kasich doesn’t guarantee a Midwest win.

I think America listens to him about the economy BECAUSE he is worried about those stealing their jobs. You want to flip for it? :>)

Yep. It is Reagan realizing the need to pick GHW Bush.

... Kasich is the pick that has the least downside ... I'd like to know a little more about his My Secret Life escapades with Gary Condit before I could accept that premise. Don't you think it odd how he bugged out of D.C. when the spotlight turned on Condit? The MSM probably has file cabinets of juicy trash they'll rediscover and share if he's selected as V.P.
That, and I've come to believe the "compassionate conservative" shtick long since passed it's shelf life.

Ohio politics for its governor is brutal. If there were anything to the Condit story we would know here.
Governor is a blood sport here.

I think the Kasich idea is a good one PROVIDED Trump does not soften his immigration stance, and that it is fully implemented without a peep of complaint from Kasich. Same for Trump’s healthcare policy.

But Trump's downside with the base is that he is generally moderate. On most things, he may agree with the establishment, and could be swayed to go their way. The establishment hates him not for his views, but because he is not controlled by them.
For balance, and to unite the party, from conservative all the way to moderate Democrat, he needs a conservative on the ticket with him. He can make overtures to Kasich, find out what he wants. Give him a cabinet post or something. But as VP he would be a backstabbing mole for the GOPe, just as he was when Newt was running the House.

Bring Ted Nugent on one of those flights to talk about our national parks. I would love to see Ted as Secretary of the Interior.

That, I must say, is BRILLIANT THINKING and a very definite path to winning the Presidency.
