But Trump's downside with the base is that he is generally moderate. On most things, he may agree with the establishment, and could be swayed to go their way. The establishment hates him not for his views, but because he is not controlled by them.

For balance, and to unite the party, from conservative all the way to moderate Democrat, he needs a conservative on the ticket with him. He can make overtures to Kasich, find out what he wants. Give him a cabinet post or something. But as VP he would be a backstabbing mole for the GOPe, just as he was when Newt was running the House.

“But Trump’s downside with the base is that he is generally moderate. “

To the base he’s a “NY liberal” to the everyone else he’s Hitler.

“On most things, he may agree with the establishment, and could be swayed to go their way. The establishment hates him not for his views, but because he is not controlled by them.”

Not sure about that: he’s going to build a wall, stop Muslim immigration, make friends with Putin and start a trade war with China.

For balance, and to unite the party, from conservative all the way to moderate Democrat, he needs a conservative on the ticket with him.”

I don’t know: Cruz is a conservative but putting him as VP won’t unite the party, because the Est. hates both of them.

Furthermore, how does appointing a conservative help us win OH (a must win)? Kasich not only guarantees OH, but portends a takeaway of MI. If pubbies win MI, Trump is Prez.

” He can make overtures to Kasich, find out what he wants. Give him a cabinet post or something. But as VP he would be a backstabbing mole for the GOPe, just as he was when Newt was running the House.”

Explain, What did he do to Newt? He’s taking credit for that era...
