My earliest political memory is my father’s strong support for Goldwater, AU H2O! I have been a Constitutional Conservative for a long, long time!
When I was in first grade (the school was so small that second grade was in the same room) we had an in-class election before the national Goldwater/Johnson vote.
We had to raise our hands (you could do things like this back then!), in favor of LBJ, raise your hands now? Lots and lots of hands (well, about 15, counting both classes).
Raise your hands for Goldwater? I was the only one.
My dad laughed hard and was very proud of me when I told him later that day.
