Nope, it wouldn't. For one thing, the subtraction value VAT, while it adds tax nominally at each point in the valuation, is also subtracted by the payer. That means that if I buy a product with a VAT and then sell it, I don't have to pass the already added part of the VAT along, because I'm allowed to subtract that part already paid by me to someone else. The net effect is that the rate is 16% from start-to-finish.

That would be 24% lower than the current corporate income tax, so it's very hard to see how prices would increase. It's also very hard to cheat that kind of a tax by offshoring. You have to pay it where the sale occurs, not where you park a headquarters building.

No, just another way of saying, "yeah, but . . ." or "so what" every time Cruz gets caught tripping over his tongue and especially over Cruz not accomplishing a thing in the Senate except getting himself face time in the media to help with the Presidential campaign he's been planning since he walked in the Senate door.

Funny how the Cruz camp doesn't apply that same attitude to Trump.
