The media will be tearing her to pieces in the general election. I hope she’s ready for it. They will go after Donald’s children, too.
Classy broad. Sexy accent. Perfect trophy wife for a guy who always acquires the best of everything money can buy.
Melania is beautiful, but I wish she’d ditch the stripper heels and heavier make up. She would look much more sophisticated. Trump must love eastern European accents, but for the life of me I don’t understand why her english is still so terrible. She claims to speak many other languages, I haven’t heard her speak them so I don’t know if she speaks them as badly as she speaks english. I’m not hating on her... I’m an immigrant, and both my parents came here as adults and they also speak multiple languages. Their english is spotless, except for the accent.
Language is a funny thing. I have friends who have been in America for their entire adult lives and now, in their 60s and 70s, still haven’t ditched their accents — especially the German accent seems so hard to get past; other friends are here for less than a decade and speak flawlessly. Also a degree of physical structure by race, including English speakers in other languages, seems to accompany intonation and accent.
So, degrees and types of fluency vary greatly with individuals and their backgrounds. Being a writer in English of course makes me more fluent in writing than in speaking in all my languages, and I’m able to translate and edit in one or two others in which I would have difficulty holding any but the most superficial conversation. Some people may have a musical ear and “get” accents perfectly without deep understanding. It’s a gift to have a wide range of capabilities. Melania is a Taurus; they are known for tenacity, and dropping an accent may be low on her spectrum of communications priorities.
When an accent carries a stigma, there’s impetus to lose it. When an accent has a certain amount of cachet, there isn’t.
The difference now is that the Internet and the alternate media have given the People the means to fight back. The web is full of pictures of Obama's mother naked, Megyn Kelly wearing slutty clothes, Bill Clinton's victims and paramours, and rafts of proof that most of the leftist moral outrage can't be serious when they demand moral purity from candidates but loudly claim a "right" to every transgression, sex aberation, substance abuse and the slaughter of babies.
Likewise on the right, the holiness folks who claim the religion of forgiveness, repentance, renewal and letting God be the judge show themselves to be hypocrites when they flame others whose behaviors have demonstrably straightened up over their lives, which appears to be the case with both Mr. and Mrs. Trump. I hope I'm not wrong on that last inference.
As for the children, they seem to be a lot straighter-laced and clean living than Dad was at the same age -- all teetotalers, all married; the two oldest have 7 or 8 children among them, and leading productive lives with lots of charity work thrown in. No one's perfect; but those kids are definitely a credit.
I agree; but how does that account for my German-born friends in their 60s and 70s? I think people's language abilities vary greatly, because so many mental capacities go into fluency -- memory, "ear", fluency in the native language, EQ, exposures, degree of study, difference between the native language linguistic group and the second language group, etc.
I think the most important aspect of losing an accent is having the desire to do so, it has to be a priority and does take some effort for most people. There are those who have the ear and facility with language to do so fairly easily, but most have to work at it, and they usually don’t, if they speak well enough to understand and be understood, that’s as far as it goes.
If he wins, she will probably get more intensive language coaching. Up to now, her public life as a has been focused on her model beauty; but she also seems to have a lot of intelligence and poise. Although he obviously likes the outwardly beautiful types, I think he would be fatally bored in marriage to a woman who was not intelligent. I got the impression Ivana was very intelligent, and certainly her kids are. I don’t know much about Marla except that she is gorgeous, but she didn’t strike me as all that bright.
I dont’ have an issue with her accent... it’s her mistakes/syntax in english that are puzzling. My parents have very thick accents, but speak perfect english grammatically speaking. That’s why I’m less likely to believe she “speaks” all of these other languages. I am bilingual, German and English...but can also read french easily. I would never state that I speak french, but I can communicate in french enough that they understand me.
You would be smart enough to hold his interest otherwise you'd be nothing but a quick trick and history.........
Melania is very intelligent and gracious. And I'm sure she is independent-thinking enough to hold her own against the strong-willed Donald. Like my wife who was born in Japan, Melania's English accent adds a beautiful charm. And when it comes time to entertain the foreign dignitaries, she will add her own royal allure to the occasion. She'll be a splendid First Lady. Together they'll put on quite a classy show. |
