Colorado Democrats and Republicans have tentatively agreed to push for changing the state's system of choosing presidential candidates to a primary election, instead of a caucus.
The agreement comes after a raucous caucus night Tuesday in which party faithful in both camps complained about the current system of thousands of precinct meetings to start choosing presidential candidates.

Looks like public outrage against the powers who have been gaming the caucus system is starting to have an actual effect.

The state moved to the caucus system about ten years ago. This was in part, to shift the cost to the parties.
I am of the opinion that the state should go to closed primaries with each party picking up half the cost.

It would be nice for “We the People” to choose our candidates and not the republican national governors committee and such. Lard boy Christie knocked all the GOOP candidates out of the race for governor and put the demoRat in power as governor in Colorado.

When I was in Colorado and ran one of the caucuses it seemed fair to me at the caucus. As things moved along toward the convention, it seemed as if the party got more and more involved in trying to force the result it wanted.
Fortunately, the rightwing nutjobs, of which I am a proud member, were able to overrule the corporatist slimeballs that wanted to foist a Romney-esque candidate on us.
I can't remember his name, but he wasn't even qualified as he hadn't been a resident of Colorado long enough by the time.
Don't know what's been happening since, but the Colorado Republicans seem to be a microcosm of what is happening at the national level: the troops are conservative but the generals have been bought and paid for by the elites.

It's obviously too late for a do-over of this year's caucuses; but theoretically changes could still be made at the county assembly and state convention level. This would probably involve throwing out the current bylaws and changing them on the fly; but there is precedent, especially from the Ryan Call years, for ignoring the bylaws or not announcing what they really mean until the process is underway.
