Yep, otherwise, if they were, there would be no nominee.

Think about it: First ballot: 33/33/33. Second ballot: 33/33/33. Rinse and repeat.

True, but the delegates will mostly be inclined to stick with the candidate they back, at least for Trump and Cruz people. The Rubio and Kasich people would be most malleable. I could imagine Trump being just shy of 1,237, and pulling some delegates by simply saying that he'll make, for example, Scott Walker VP.

Which is the problem if Cruz gets enough votes in round one they will use that to install Rubio as the nominee in round two.
