Reagan innoculated himself somewhat from the “ elites” by taking on GHW Bush as vp. The deal was Reagan for one term then GHW to “run the country the way it should be run to protect the “protected class” and the other “elites”.
Sadly, the deterioration of society has allowed a “rapper” media to make their attacks on our cadidates all the more contemptible

So, did GHW Bush get to run Reagan's second term? I don't know much about that time in history.
