For years, Wayne Simmons claimed to be a former C.I.A. operative. Then one ex-spook got suspicious.
Kent Clizbe, a 55-year-old former C.I.A. officer and intelligence contractor, has cultivated a diverse set of interests in his later years. He loves bird watching and participates in his local Christmas Bird Count, an informal census organized by the Audubon Society. He has a patent on a device, the TimeOff, that prevents unattended-stove fires. But Clizbes true motivating force a holdover, perhaps, from his decade with the agency is an unrelenting compulsion to get to the bottom of things. He vets every person he meets, interrogating every fact presented to him. This perpetual need to turn everything inside out is the defining trait of Clizbes personality, and he remains faithful to it, even when it incurs him great personal expense...

“How Fox News’ CIA ‘con-man’ was exposed over Facebook chat: Former spook claims his three-year investigation led to arrest of Wayne Simmons for fraud”
“He vets every person he meets, interrogating every fact presented to him. This perpetual need to turn everything inside out is the defining trait of Clizbe’s personality”
I wouldn’t want to be a neighbor or co-worker of his.
You are correct, “Interesting story”.
Probably true, BUT coming from the NYT, I am skeptical. But since the tale also exposed FOX “News”, I sure want to believe it.
That’s just Richard Burton, a British actor who’s been dead for what, 20 years? He’d have been a good drinking buddy. Nosy neighbors and co-workers are NOT good drinking buddies.
The trouble with vetting someone who might have been in the CIA is that that agency will “neither confirm nor deny” that that person worked for them.
So there is no reliable way to check on it, —unless— someone on the inside spills the beans...
He did a great job “vetting”Odungo....right?....he did didn’t he....or maybe he’s too busy vetting Hilda...maybe. Does the Times have any info on those vettings?
Is it possible he was involved in a long op to discredit Fox?
If this story is accurate, Simmons was nuts.
an unrelenting compulsion to get to the bottom of things. He vets every person he meets, interrogating every fact presented to him.

I’ve been quizzed by people like that but only once per person. It’s like they are calling you a liar. I’ll walk away from anybody who doubts my veracity.
I learned long ago that it’s hard to lie, you have to have an excellent memory for detail. “Let’s see now, how did I tell that story the first time”?
“Thats just Richard Burton, a British actor whos been dead for what, 20 years? Hed have been a good drinking buddy. Nosy neighbors and co-workers are NOT good drinking buddies.”
Whenever someone from the audience at one of Jerry Seinfeld’s shows asks, “What’s Newman (or Cramer) really like?”, he reminds them “Folks, these are characters, not real people!”
He digs into everyone, except for his bosses or people in government. Just the ordinary citizens.
A highly skilled pathological liar........
I’m talking about Simmons
Bingo, we have a winner.
(yes he is probably phony)
Sounds like a fan of Charlie Sheen... Iam winning!
It really doesn’t reflect well on Fox that some of their own military analysts were for years telling them this guy was a fraud and they continued to use him.
And it doesn’t reflect well on the Bush administration that they not only made him part of that media analysts program but had him in close contact with people such as Rumsfeld.
I believe Clizbe.
His senior contacts, like M, make it clear Simmons is a fraud.
Can’t really blame Fox, as there is no place to vet CIA claims.
You have to be sceptical of all these so called expert talking heads they dredge up. I’ve known enough real people and frauds to keep my antennas always up.
