I will just post the link because under the author's name it states Bloomberg View even though this is on Chicago Tribune's website.

I know I am biased towards Trump (it's my Freep name) but I like doing objective analysis on subjects.

I am stating this in my Trump neutral analysis mode.

My takeaway from Rubio's tactic is that to an outsider - Rubio is attacking Trump by copying Trump and being a poor copy of Trump to boot. To someone who is on the fence between Rubio and Trump (I assume that is who Rubio is going for) he is looking at Rubio try and out Trump Trump and that is not possible. Rubio comes off as fake and without originality.

It also shows to me a fundamental lack of understanding by the Establishment guys who are coaching Rubio. They think Trump is winning by being an insult comic. That is not why Trump is winning. It's that Trump is talking tough on the issues the base - the deep base - cares about - the Wall. Runaway illegal immigration. The failure of free trade to lift all boats with the rising tide. Unending wars for no gain.

The establishment does not get it and that is why they will be crushed like an empty beer can at a tailgate party tonight and the coming weeks by Trump.

The headline is true. Trump is a natural. It is forced with Rubio. His heart isn’t into it.

Funny how Rubio subconsciously had penis on his mind.

Yes, the Amnesty Snake is doing that and I am thinking it is effective enough to take votes away from Ted Cruz to remain in the mix through the summer, but won’t because Rubio will best him and many states I fear.

To me as one who likes Cruz this is a bad thing and I think very ill considered on Ted’s part in hooking up with Rubio to take down Trump (not a smart thing). Trump wins, Rubio takes out Ted and it’s over and done for Ted.

I’d much rather have had Ted and Donald to come to some kind of reckoning that helps us. Marco Rubio won’t ever help us; all he will do is give us 50 million newly legalized illegal citizen voters that will bury us all.

The headline is true. Trump is a natural. It is forced with Rubio. His heart isn’t into it. - It also seems from an observers position someone made Rubio do this. So it makes Rubio look like a puppet as well. Trump is a first time political candidate running for the presidency as an amateur politician and seasoned politicians are looking to copy Trump’s style?

You are right.

Each candidate MUST be honest and campaign as who he is . . . and I think that’s why Cruz lost the minute he got dirty. (I don’t think he had a chance anyway, but it got worse). Cruz could have run as the “pristine” candidate, the “Christian” candidate, but by sullying himself with the “vote fraud” letters, the Carson scam, the pornstar ad, then Beck, well, he completely alienated a LOT of religious conservatives, which is why his “evangelicals” numbers are constantly below Trump’s.

For all his vulgarity and roughness, Trump comes off (to all but the TDS people) as “real.” In one of the latest polls (forget which, too many) Trump was WAY ahead of Cruz and Rubio on “honesty.” Really? Well, yes.
\
So, to Rubio, he cannot out-Trump Trump. It’s silly. It would be like Arnold Schwartzenegger trying to do Shakespeare.

Absolutely. They are playing politics the old fashioned way. They think Trump’s success is a political equation. Really sad to see Pinocchio dance.

I was originally Cruz or Trump. Then, I was hoping Cruz and Trump would team up, go to Washington and raise some hell. Cruz has shown his true colors - it’s hard to portray yourself as the evangelical conservative antiestablishment candidate when you are rolling around in the mud with the others. It was like a kick in the gut for me. I’m hopeful that Ted will return to the senate, get back to his roots, learn from his mistakes and have a bright political future.

I think you nailed it. Trump's insults work because they're directly related to the effectiveness or lack of effectiveness that his opponents would have on a particular issue. Jeb was "low energy" and everyone knows it takes someone with high energy to take on the job of President. Rubio is choker and everyone knows you can't choke as president.

"... a fundamental lack of understanding by the Establishment guys who are coaching Rubio."

That's news? I look at it this way....pushing Ribio to the front of the pack as the Establishment guy for POTUS....knowing he can't beat Hillary and can't win period. The establishment wants the Status quo to remain the same and Hillary will do just that and more.

By the way....why hasn't Hillary removed herself from the Clinton Foundation as co-owner? She should have had to do that as Secretary of State...Dems would and have demanded the same from Republicans.

Ted in my view has definitely not made good choices. It’s disappointing, frankly.

If Trump wants any lip from Rubio, he will scrape it off his zipper.

Agreed that Rubio has hurt himself.

First, he can’t do the attacking thing as well as Trump.

Second, and far more importantly, for someone who condemned Trump for going into attack mode to then do EXACTLY THE SAME THING is just hypocritical (i.e. a sack of lies) - and people are VERY sensitive to that in this cycle.

Bottom line: Rubio didn’t hurt Trump, he hurt the Republican Party by engaging in that game at the debate and since. He has shown himself to be very un-Presidential. He will not win a single state today, and he will lose Florida in 2 weeks - nothing he did will change those facts.

I honestly never thought Ted would win. I don't even thing Ted thinks he would win against Clinton. I think Ted was running to take over the GOP party. I know that sounds unlikely because usually when you lose as a candidate you go away but Ted maybe thought (my view) he can lose but wrest the GOP away and make it his own conservative fiefdom.

I think Ted misread the relationship with Trump that the public was imagining. The Public wanted Trump as Pres and Cruz as VP who would make sure Trump stayed true to the ideals of the movement, etc.

Instead Cruz sought to attack Donald in a negative way forcing a reaction from Trump. Cruz would right now be in line to be the Southern VP whip for Donald. A Northern and Southern alliance. But Cruz blew that and when he did I think he turned off a lot of potential fans.

Rubio; lightweight.
Trump: jackass who couldn’t pass an eight grade civics exam
Carson: nice guy, finishing last
Kasich; Ohio needs you!
Cruz; honest, smart, straightforward, Constitutionalist
Clinton; unindicted felon
Sanders; unreconstructed commie

Anyone stand out to you?

“They think Trump’s success is a political equation”

Which explains the last 2 days.

They think is they just barrage Trump, the plebs will naturally run crying to them for salvation and forgiveness.

It hasn’t worked, but they wont learn.
