We are reaching a grand turning point, where the last remnants of a dying democracy are killed and a new tyranny imposed. Republic become democracies, which fall into tyranny. Such is the cycle since the beginning.
Not a happy thing. The best we can hope for is a peaceful transition, but that is rare. More often a cycle of wars leads to a breakdown.
