Remember when Barack Obama promised the world in 2008, only to leave some enthusiasts bereft after he failed to close Guantanamo, much less slow the rise of the oceans?
If we elect a President Donald Trump, you ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to disillusionment.
Imagine the fury among his supporters when their outsized hero is exposed as a huckster who cashes the check as soon as the car is off the lot.
The brash billionaire has sold I-can-fix-it-just-you-watch pledges to millions of voters enraged about a steady stream of hollow political promises. To them, Trump towers as the man who means what he says and who will finally, after a long line of empty suits, deliver.
Fully 43% of Republican voters see him as the candidate most likely to get things done in Washington -- more than double the number who have confidence in his next closest rival.....

How many wins does he have?
“I think Trump will be another Schwarzenegger and flop in exactly the manner Schwarzenegger did. “
Hardly the same. Arnold was the choice of the Cal GOPe.
DT is inviting the Sword Of Damocles to hang over his head. And he knows it.
He is sowing the wind....
We'll see what he reaps.
The weeping and whining have begun. :-)
“Hope” is all you are going to get until it’s done.
Well we have dynamite energy here.
The sensible thing to do with dynamite is to handle it wisely, so it only blasts what you want blasted.
‘My biggest fear is that his (well meaning) supporters will regret what could have been.’
That’s not going to happen. The Trump supporters are not in for a penny, they’re in for a pound. Trump cited a poll saying 2/3’s of them would stick with him no matter what. I believe that poll 100%. When he starts cutting deals and chopping away at the Constitution, they’ll just shrug and say, ‘well, we need to get things done’. I figure he’s probably got at least 15% of the general population in his pocket, and they’re not going anywhere. No matter what.
That's what we're dealing with, a real, sweeping, change from being ruled by a nobility to actually having elected representatives who do the will of the people. The people or the nobility dictating to the peasents, read some history and recalibrate your imagination.
Rule by nobility usually doesn't end quietly.
That sounds mighty wimpy. It bespeaks a lazy body politic.
I'm sure Cali and New York are worlds apart in policy preferences.
A MOST EXCELLENT POINT JONTY !!!
More than Rubio.
Fewer than the emperor with no clothes.
How proud you must be.
Donald will also have to sweeten up his act at some point, because he has managed to gather so many enemies.
Agree 100%. Was called "moron" and told I was "off my meds" by Trump groupies on another thread for stating these obvious facts.
” And what are you going to feel if Trump joins the establishment? Isn’t his “art of the deal” about making “deals”?
This is one of my worries about him.”
Stop worrying about it, it’s guaranteed!
He’s the GOPee’s insurance to keep a true conservative out of the White House and keep the crony gravy train rollin’.
They’re similar in some ways, different in others.
Anyhow, Trump will have over an order of magnitude more watchers.
Trump doesn’t give a tinker’s damn about the Constitution. He’s authoritarian and opposed to much of the Bill of Rights if they present any difficulty to him. Unless he becomes pretty much a dictator, he won’t get that much done. Deporting the people he wants to deport will be a time consuming process. It’ll be far more consuming than sending the troops or border patrol through the neighborhood and rousting out the Mexicans.
He also won’t have much luck suing people who badmouth him. Again, he would need an authoritarian government to back him up.
All this said, his followers seem to want at least a temporary dictator to restore the country they want. Then he can go away. Yeah, right.
Some “true conservatives” are actually pretty weak.
Hopefully we do not anticipate a model in which Trump is coronated king. The rest of the government will still be there, though it will find itself on a wilder ride than it had ever been on before.
