I think someone else nailed it when they said that Trump thought it was a "gotcha" question. Trump is a political novice, and in that sense, I think the criticism is really unfair.

But that unfairness is a very real thing that Trump is going to have to handle better if he wants to win the general election. Between the media and the Dems, Republicans will be held to a higher standard, and so the GOP nominee must meet that standard.

It's one of the problems in nomination a non-politician, because they're simply not used to speaking in a way where every word is measured. Trump has broken that mold in the primary, but I'm not sure that will work in a general election.

The KKK hasn’t been any credible threat on any real scale since a few years after one of their number thought it would be a good idea to set off a bomb in a church and blew four small children to salsa... An endorsement by Duke thus carries about as much weight as an endorsement from the mayor of my friends’ rural hometown with a population in the four digits.

You are correct. You appear to have more sense than the candidate under discussion, who appeared to have no knowledge of either.

I disagree, Trump has no associations with Duke or neo-Nazis I’m aware of. We agree. But he knew who Duke was by his own admission 15 years ago, and the Klan, he knows who they are. Bruce Campbells Chin got it right a couple posts downthread, billionaire, reality show success, he needs to step up his game if he want’s to be elected President. This was a no brainer question to disavow Duke’s support.

Yeah, David Duke’s been a known Grand Wizard of the KKK since he ran for office in LA in the early 90s, so I’m sure it’s entirely plausible Trump never heard of him until now or what group he’s part of...

“Cruz lied on Fox about this. Said that Donald was responsible for robo-calls from white supremacists. He knew it wasn’t true, but he lied anyway.”

I heard Cruz say a white supremacist super PAC was responsible for the calls and Trump had not disavowed their actions, which at that point he hadn’t, and I’m not sure if he has yet. I know he disavowed David Duke, but not sure if he’s addressed the robocalls made on his behalf. I know your candidate likes to throw around the “liar, liar” charge, but let’s try to stick to the facts here.

“An endorsement by Duke thus carries about as much weight as an endorsement from the mayor of my friends’ rural hometown with a population in the four digits.”

If that’s true, then why hesitate on network TV to disavow him and do it quietly later in a tweet?

During war time.

I find your use of “war time” interesting. Did we really have war time during Iraq and Afghanistan? I have never considered the 2000’s as a time of war for our society, although I should.

Then he has led a fairly charmed life to not have heard of Mr David Duke. But your husband is not running for president of United States and therefore should be held to the same standards has someone who is doing so.

Trump should have said screw the media. This is a free country and all Americans deserve to be heard and have the right to have free opinions and speech. The media is about muzzling any non PC beliefs and speech they don’t want to hear, and they their use their muzzle power as power to promote only their own.

Opponents to illegal immigration such as Numbers USA, and VDARE are constantly targeted by the same media as being racist. The reality here is we are opening our doors in the USA to those who threaten us and then those who control our government use that threat to take away our rights and freedoms.

Well, he is the Goldman Sachs candidate. He and Hillary - heads we win, tails we win.

That should have read, and should not be held to the same standard.

This was a no brainer question to disavow Duke’s support.

The problem is it wouldn’t just be one question on the KKK. It would be a gotcha trap conversation. What benefit is that to Trump? None. Trump was in a no win situation and now Cruzies are bashing him along with the rest of the GOPe and liberals. Good company Cruz supporters are keeping there.

We didn’t know where he was born and we knew he was a US citizen just like Donald when he said he talked to all of his lawyers and everything was a okay but then changed his mind. And remember under Donald J Trump theory I could not sue you for libel.

I have to look at the group. I don't know what group you're talking about. You wouldn't want me to condemn a group that I know nothing about

Sorry, would have been easier to explain he isn't responsible for who might support him, and leave it at that. Condemning the KKK would also be nice. What follow up questions do you anticipate about the KKK. Opportunities to exploit their history as a Democrat political group.

He screwed up, and corrected it.

This is a chance of guilt by association.

Even worse, IMO. This is a chance of guilt by (non) association. Trump has nothing to do with these clowns. Cruzbio know that yet they still pile on.

We’re in a zero sum game now. Either Trump wins or the GOPe burn down the party. Today’s KKK stuff is just beyond the pale.

We’re going around in circles. It wouldn’t have been the end of the conversation had Trump “disavowed”. Look at Tapper pounding on this issue on twitter all day. This was a planned hit on Trump. No doubt about it.
