Northern Virginia in pentagon land. I grew up there, you’d make friends in school and 2 years later half of them would be gone somewhere else. A highly mobile society.

Very true. While I was in Springfield, VA, I attended a movie in Annendale. Jungle Book. An annoying kid put his feet on the back of my seat. I turned around to see the kid that lived next door to me in Navy quarters in Honolulu, Hawaii in kindergarten. I was in 5th grade at this point. A year later, I made friends with another trumpet player in my band. I had borrowed a copy of the Green Beret music from him during our time in band. It was now near Christmas in 1968 and I was going to be moving back to San Diego. I walked to his house...and it was vacant. He had moved. Some weeks later, I was sitting in my new PE class at Hilltop Jr High in Chula Vista as the coach called roll. The name Steve Thomas was read. I turned around to see my neighbor sitting behind me in my PE class. I returned the copy of the music to him that afternoon. A week later, I ran into my old friend Don Wallace from my days in Honolulu. His family moved to Chula Vista as well and we were now in the same PE class. It's really a small world.
