A few weeks after Senator Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 79% joined a bipartisan push for an immigration overhaul in 2013, he arrived alongside Senator Chuck Schumer at the executive dining room of News Corporations Manhattan headquarters for dinner.
Their mission was to persuade Rupert Murdoch, the owner of the media empire, and Roger Ailes, the chairman and chief executive of its Fox News division, to keep the networks on-air personalities from savaging the legislation and give it a fighting chance at survival.
Mr. Murdoch, an advocate of immigration reform, and Mr. Ailes, his top lieutenant and the most powerful man in conservative television, agreed at the Jan. 17, 2013, meeting to give the senators some breathing room.
But the media executives, highly attuned to the intensifying anger in the Republican grass roots, warned that the senators also needed to make their case to Rush Limbaugh, the king of conservative talk radio, who held enormous sway with the partys largely anti-immigrant base.
The dinner at News Corporation headquarters which has not been previously reported and the subsequent outreach to Mr. Limbaugh illustrate the degree to which Mr. Rubio served as the chief envoy to the conservative media for the group supporting the legislation. The bill would have provided a pathway to American citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants along with measures to secure the borders and ensure that foreigners left the United States upon the expiration of their visas.

The article is subtle. It never says that Ingraham and Levin joined in. It only says the gang of 8 reached out to them. Limbaugh appears to have been focused on border security first and last. This article basically says they presented to all the talk hosts, but it never says the hosts sided with them. Read it. With Limbaugh it mentions his praising rubio at the time, but it doesn’t mention one single word out of Ingraham or levin. Fair is fair.
This could be a hit piece against these people. I’m not believing in the sudden purity of the NY TIMES in an article that offers only innuendo.
Is there any FReeper who could listen to Rush’s entire show today for us?
I want to know if this NYT article is even in his Stack o’ Stuff, or how far down the stack it is. Where does he bury his “nothing see here, folks” in his three hour show?
I can’t listen in my car without migraine-inducing static. Is anyone able to listen to the whole thing today?
I can’t get him on the radio here. I wish I could.
Just asking again if any FReeper will be listening to the entire Limbaugh show today, to see if he addresses the NYT article which claims he changed the content of his program after being wined and dined by Schumer and his “gang.”
Rush loves to talk about ANY article in which he is mentioned. If he doesn’t bring this up today, that is EXTREMELY TELLING. He broke my heart this weekend because I have thought he was one of us, a patriot, this entire time. I think I started listening in 1994. I want to give him a chance to respond.
But I can’t hear the whole show today. Maybe someone here was planning to anyway? Please report back on whether he even mentions being called a lying phony in the NYT. I don’t know how he can respond to it if true; I don’t see a good Obama-like method of walking it back. The best he can do is say that it was a total lie and that he never went to dinner with Schumer. And that he chose on his own not to talk about amnesty much while the bill was being pushed.
Kaslin often posts transcripts of portions of Rush's show. If Rush speaks of the NYT article claiming Rush supported the Gang of Eight, then perhaps Kaslin will post that.
I think this NYT article is all innuendo about Ingraham, Levin, Hannity, and Rush. I think it mischaracterizes Rush by giving the impression he fully supported every Rubio said back then just because he praised a new Tea Party senator. This was early in Rubio's senate career so the sheen hadn't worn off Rubio yet. I would bet money that Rush praised him. But I'm not sure why that means Rush secretly supported the Gang of Eight bill.
Thanks, I do hope someone will. At home I can find him on I heart, but I can’t in the car.
Sometimes I listen to him online, but that ties me to my computer.
You can bet that I will post that. You have to remember though that you can't believe half the stuff the New York Slimes reports
Yep! It would be EXTREMELY TELLING
Good thing Cruz blocked the bill.
Trump was supporting Schumer at the time.
Vote Cruz!
B T T T
“Not to mention Cruz love of H1b.....
Dirty secret....legal immigration has killed America more than illegal”
You are one of the few here who consistently get it.
.
OK, just how is this a “Bombshell Scoop?”
We have been witnessing Fox’ effort to propel Rubio for quite a while now.
.
Good grief , I’m talking about Laura Ingram , levin , and rush !
Since Fox News is on the warpath against Trump today...
BTTT
Many who claim to be conservatives are not conservatives by my definition. Some of these talk show hosts are all for open borders and destroying our country, which an amnesty bill would do.
