A few weeks after Senator Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 79% joined a bipartisan push for an immigration overhaul in 2013, he arrived alongside Senator Chuck Schumer at the executive dining room of News Corporations Manhattan headquarters for dinner.
Their mission was to persuade Rupert Murdoch, the owner of the media empire, and Roger Ailes, the chairman and chief executive of its Fox News division, to keep the networks on-air personalities from savaging the legislation and give it a fighting chance at survival.
Mr. Murdoch, an advocate of immigration reform, and Mr. Ailes, his top lieutenant and the most powerful man in conservative television, agreed at the Jan. 17, 2013, meeting to give the senators some breathing room.
But the media executives, highly attuned to the intensifying anger in the Republican grass roots, warned that the senators also needed to make their case to Rush Limbaugh, the king of conservative talk radio, who held enormous sway with the partys largely anti-immigrant base.
The dinner at News Corporation headquarters which has not been previously reported and the subsequent outreach to Mr. Limbaugh illustrate the degree to which Mr. Rubio served as the chief envoy to the conservative media for the group supporting the legislation. The bill would have provided a pathway to American citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants along with measures to secure the borders and ensure that foreigners left the United States upon the expiration of their visas.

I listen to her too and usually depend on her
I can only assume she agreed to meet because she was asked
It doesn’t look like she went along
Hey y'all, I hear Romney is available (batting his eyelashes seductively).
My candidate isn’t the one who earned himself the reputation of a liar.
Yours is.
FOX News is team Rubios media wing. It is 24/7 pro-Rubio and anti-others, especially Cruz.
Agree. They spew his platitudes while ignoring his finishes, and polling to date....
Also he might as well host the oscars tonight based on his recent comedy club routine of town hall meetings
<<< “ It is 24/7 pro-Rubio and anti-others, especially Cruz. “ >>>
My sainted aunt. “.....Especially Cruz”.
FOX may dismiss Cruz, but they are trying to destroy TRUMP.
In any case, viewers are fools to still give FOX anything near regular hits for ratings.
It was the same for us when the Republican Party over dosed on their arrogance, leaving the base to vote for the “lesser of two evils”.
“Nobody to trust, except Donald Trump and the people supporting him”
That’s right because he’s been rock solid on all the issues for the past 10 minutes.
You should have stopped your comment after the first three words.
I’m surprised and disgusted. I never thought that Rush would do something so underhanded.
Thanks for the ping, PJ!
Why is anyone now believing the New York Times?
Do you doubt it tho?
Thanks, PJ.
No surprise here! Murdock and sons unmasked, if nothing else, will be the first prize seen in this election cycle. The lot has been for cheap labor and in the rube tent will be the downfall of the Network. Their fall will not stop at 50 percent. Wait until their negatives are seen. The TPTB will be scraping the bottom of the barrel and digging for coins in the cushions of their plushy couch to find the dollars to cover their checks to the highly paid call-girls who make FOX into the brothel it is today. The once, well-thought of network became nothing more than a combination of the Tower of Babelon and Sodom and Gomorrah.
To see them crumble would be to see Samson destroy the pillars with all the strength he might muster.
WTP do wish for them a very blessed Sunday and that they will see peace this weak.
Go TRUMP!!
Thanks for the ping..just listened to it,

This was easier than the website.
Thanks to ALL that passed this around.
Excellent!
Seriously, I used to be PROUD that he took his clever lines from us. Now I am pissed. He was perfectly happy to sit down with.... Apparently anyone. Maybe even Obama. I mean, he’d eat with Chuck U Schumer???? And do his bidding???? Pi$$ed.
Did the article say Rush Limbaugh was persuaded?
IT SAYS HE GAVE THEM A GOOD LISTEN AND LUNCH.... A listen about the content of his upcoming shows. WHY EVEN SHOW UP? The Rush that I thought he was, would have responded to the invite with a chuckling no way, and it would have been fodder for one hour of show the next day, where he turned down these senators coming to him to change the content of his show to benefit their AMNESTY BILL. That’s the kind of person I believed him to be.
But no, he sat, listened, apparently agreed, and amnesty dropped MYSTERIOUSLY DEEPER INTO THE STACK OF STUFF.
So he did what they wanted. And I want to know why. Rush, you got some splainin’ to do, and further lies will not work.
Yeah, I bought into the Romney thing because I thought obama’s second term would be a nightmare. I know you FReepers tried to show me that it was a trap. I didn’t get it then.
Fox News skated for years... they didn’t have to put money into foreign correspondents or major city news bureaus BECAUSE they got away with making a slight bow to the people in flyover. We watched them and their barebones offerings because FOX wasn’t giving us the finger every 20 minutes.
Now they are... FOX is no different than CNN or MSNBC EXCEPT what they offer is news that bashes us on the cheap. FOXNEWS is elite democrat AND GOPe.
Tacky ...
Why should we watch that? Every middle aged talent has 4 airhead women to fawn over him for a forth of every show? (Only Hannity doesn’t partake) It’s a joke. We’ve put up with that crap... for nothing. Even Greta brings in bevies of young men in their thirties to fawn over her. Between OReilly and Howard Kurtz the place is creepy with old men and breathless young women.
If they’re going to be one more bash Republican channel they better put some major money into what they offer because we’re NOT going to be loyal to a low quality, barebones, network on the cheap that looks down their noses on citizens outside the beltway.
They’re elites in waiting? Fine. Put money into the garbage - because you’ve thrown away our loyalty.
They may have known each other in New York. Hmm.
I read one of Levin’s books and agreed with every word and punctuation mark. But he still wasn’t on air out here. When finally I could listen to his show, I was stunned by his horrible voice, ugh, and then by his utter rudeness and screaming at people. It was never that the caller seemed to deserve a slapdown. It was always just Levin losing control of himself. I found it embarrassing that the man displayed really petty weakness, and it made his show unlistenable.
Oh, $20 came right out of my food budget for the FIXING of the punctuation problem! So glad it finally happened. That deserves a donation. Each FReepathon should include maybe a description of a problem fixed or a purchase that helped. It opens wallets.
