A few weeks after Senator Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 79% joined a bipartisan push for an immigration overhaul in 2013, he arrived alongside Senator Chuck Schumer at the executive dining room of News Corporations Manhattan headquarters for dinner.
Their mission was to persuade Rupert Murdoch, the owner of the media empire, and Roger Ailes, the chairman and chief executive of its Fox News division, to keep the networks on-air personalities from savaging the legislation and give it a fighting chance at survival.
Mr. Murdoch, an advocate of immigration reform, and Mr. Ailes, his top lieutenant and the most powerful man in conservative television, agreed at the Jan. 17, 2013, meeting to give the senators some breathing room.
But the media executives, highly attuned to the intensifying anger in the Republican grass roots, warned that the senators also needed to make their case to Rush Limbaugh, the king of conservative talk radio, who held enormous sway with the partys largely anti-immigrant base.
The dinner at News Corporation headquarters which has not been previously reported and the subsequent outreach to Mr. Limbaugh illustrate the degree to which Mr. Rubio served as the chief envoy to the conservative media for the group supporting the legislation. The bill would have provided a pathway to American citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants along with measures to secure the borders and ensure that foreigners left the United States upon the expiration of their visas.

And yet in the post debate CNN interview Cruz said he would back Rubio over Trump.
Yep! So sick of the media running our elections.
Thank you very much for posting that revealing transcript. Hard to believe that it was so recent.
Just damn!
I’d stopped listening to Rush back around Thanksgiving, too many times he seemed to phone it in. It was clear that he was pulling much of his material from blogs without doing the background research. Started thinking he had some medical problems when he started searching for the right word, memory issues. Start with him back in 94.... sad.
“The whole bloody GOPe machine has been laid bare as never before.”
And we have only Trump to thank for it. Without him, it would be Jeb or one of the Senators, and nothing would change, nothing. The US would continue down it’s road to mediocrity.
Yep
uh, no. It's the partys largely anti-ILLEGAL immigrant base.
I do so despise the deliberate distortion.
I guess “pro-sane-immigration” would be too big a mouthful for the NYT writers to wrap their 80-point IQs around.
Didn’t this happen right when Trump was landing in Arkansas? I was flipping channels and that’s how I remember the “alert”. (unless memory fails)
How many on this thread have actually read the “gang of eight” bill? (Of course, I must do the obligatory, “I’m not for amnesty” caveat). I read it last night, and I was expecting something far more liberal.
So I have to ask, once Trump rounds them up and sends them back, then let’s them back in (the good ones), which is nothing more than what the democrats promote and call “touchback”, WHAT THEN? What is Trump’s plan when they come back? I am betting there will be a proposal almost exactly like the gang of eight, unless the superstar good ones, are so great and beautiful that they are granted immediate citizenship.....but they must be superstars.
“I am 100% voting Trump. But Sorry I dont trust the NY Times.”
Since you are voting for Trump, you obviously care about the country, so excellent. As far as the NYT goes, you may want to watch this show, as it all starts fitting together.

(I know, PBS, but these are the PLAYERS talking, not PBS)
“Who benefits? Trump it would seem, But he is not a favorite of the NYT.
So who benefits. Not Cruz...NYT detests Cruz more than Trump.
The whole story is interesting indeed.”
PRECISELY, that’s how I look at something from the MSM - if I cannot see a clear motive for them, then I start thinking that just maybe they’re getting it right - as I’m thinking here.
I haven’t listened to Rush for years, but here’s my guess as to what he’ll say:
“Okay, folks, just calm down. Nothing to see here. Just a dinner, just suggestions, this happens all the time, routine stuff....”, etc.
It is amazing how this election cycle, the players are sorting themselves out, or shall we say, “self-sorting”, or “outing themselves”, into FOR THE PEOPLE, or AGAINST THE PEOPLE.
Amazing stuff.
>>They have betrayed their listeners by secretly being part of the New World Order cabal that supported and endorsed this agenda every single step of the way.
Wouldn’t it be something if their ratings just tanked and remained that way?
Wouldn’t it be something if Rush’s 24/7 subscribers called him up and cancelled the balance of their subscriptions?
We’re living in “interesting times”!
>>What?? I loved you, Rush. I loved you from first listen. But you are an f’ing LIAR to us loyal listeners. You “couldn’t handle the pay cut” to run for any office for us, even when we were in dire straits. Obama was not even slightly eligible to run for the presidency AND YOU NEVER SAID A WORD. You clearly don’t care about the listeners who built you, loved you, supported you. YOU ONLY CARE ABOUT HANGING WITH THESE STUPID MEDIA KINGS AND DC POWER BROKERS. You will change your content for them. You do their bidding and you never even tell us about your little game. You’re not a patriotic American after all. You just play one on the radio.
Wow, you write so powerfully. I love it.
I hope he reads your comment!
Thanks for the ping.
Thank you, truly sickening. GO TRUMP!
>> kind of collusion between the Uniparty, Fox, and talk radio went on back in 2013, just imagine how much of it is going on right now against Trump.
Fox no longer cares about being neutral reporters. They’ve come out of their own stealth mode and into full view, just like a cougar, ready to attack.
They are all ONE entity, just different “divisions”.
They are the Globalist Cabal, and they are being outed in a most wonderful manner.
If they succeed in getting their establishment candidate, then it elections no longer matter. We’re done. If you choose to “vote”, you can write whatever you like.
I don’t know what Laura said at the time but she is not a Rubio supporter now.
I follow her on twitter and she comes down pretty hard on him.
