A few weeks after Senator Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 79% joined a bipartisan push for an immigration overhaul in 2013, he arrived alongside Senator Chuck Schumer at the executive dining room of News Corporation’s Manhattan headquarters for dinner.
Their mission was to persuade Rupert Murdoch, the owner of the media empire, and Roger Ailes, the chairman and chief executive of its Fox News division, to keep the network’s on-air personalities from savaging the legislation and give it a fighting chance at survival.
Mr. Murdoch, an advocate of immigration reform, and Mr. Ailes, his top lieutenant and the most powerful man in conservative television, agreed at the Jan. 17, 2013, meeting to give the senators some breathing room.
But the media executives, highly attuned to the intensifying anger in the Republican grass roots, warned that the senators also needed to make their case to Rush Limbaugh, the king of conservative talk radio, who held enormous sway with the party’s largely anti-immigrant base.
The dinner at News Corporation headquarters — which has not been previously reported — and the subsequent outreach to Mr. Limbaugh illustrate the degree to which Mr. Rubio served as the chief envoy to the conservative media for the group supporting the legislation. The bill would have provided a pathway to American citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants along with measures to secure the borders and ensure that foreigners left the United States upon the expiration of their visas.

I noticed Levin and Hannity outed as well. Hannity is not too bright so he was probably just a pawn in the game. However, Levin is a snake and a detestable little person. I’m sure he’ll express all sorts of outrage tomorrow on his show.
He said something about Trump’s FACE??? I sure missed that!
This should lay bare, once and for all, how we, the American people are being played for malleable idiots by the media and Establishment politicians of both parties. This is about the last wakeup call we’re going to get before we get plowed under.
Everything hinges on this election. If one doesn’t know the clear choice by now, it’s too late anyway. It’s time to wake to the fact that this isn’t going to be a fair election unless we make it so. And that’s going to take each and every one of us.
The Establishment has made up it’s mind that the choices of the American people mean nothing. The fix is already in as far as they’re concerned and they’ll do anything; and I do mean anything; to make sure things go their way. Journalism is dead and mass manipulation has become the order of the day. How many, I wonder, are sick and angry and done being played? I know that I am.
Rubio said Trump should sue whoever made his face orange. It’s is exchange to Trump saying Rubio had makeup troweled on. A little boy in the schoolyard fight - a distraction from the more substantive critiques. Trump also said Rubio has big ears.

True. However, the percentage of sponges that soak it up whole without the ability to attempt to sort fact from fantasy has reached critical mass. They have dutifully swallowed their opiates in the form of trash and “talking heads” telling them what to think, what is “in” and who to like or dislike in order to escape having to think for themselves. What is astounding to me is how many times in history this has happened and it still happens over and over again.
What would be astounding would be if it DIDN'T happen!
I do agree that dumbing down is part of the calculus, as is "bread and circuses." Human nature doesn't change just because technology does.
I'd add that in times past, it was well and commonly known that universal suffrage is more dangerous to a stable society than the worst despot.

Interesting Trump has never publicly lauded Rush.
The article says Rubio would have to reach out to Limbaugh. Show me anywhere it says Limbaugh agreed to anything. I listen to rush a lot and I can’t think of anything he has said that would make me think he was playing ball with them.
I can’t believe people are getting so riled over a NYT article that is sourced to “un-named”. Do you honestly believe Rubio could roll Fox, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, etal, and not a word gets out until the NYT lets it fly?
