...Cruz doesn't tithe. He and his wife donated less than 1 percent of their income to charity and nothing to churches, including to their own in Houston, according to tax returns from 2006 to 2010, the most recent Cruz has released.
His campaign declined requests from The Associated Press to provide recent tax returns or otherwise demonstrate donations since 2010. Cruz has said he and his wife were more focused on using their seven-figure annual income to build a financial foundation for their family.

I had to look him up. Mobile has turned more liberal over the years, just like Myrtle Beach and so many other parts of the South.
Tithing is not in the New Testament and the old testament laws were fulfilled by the Blood of Jesus who atoned for all the sins of the believers. Thanks.
Tell that to the Cruz bashers.
You lie.
I admire you for this. I can not one-up you on this matter.
I am not trying to one-up anyone. I haven’t always tithed as much.
I go to a small church and there just aren’t many tithing. I am concerned the church wouldn’t make it without me and a few others.
Several in the church are allowed to come over from the local jail. They wear their department of corrections outfits. We welcome them because they need the message too. Jesus has changed many of their lives. In fact, some have later become involved in prison ministries.
The church means a lot to me and my family. It reaches people that I am not sure would otherwise be hearing the gospel.
If you knew me, you would know I really cannot one-up many folks. I certainly don’t always do what is right.

There is much to like in your post - especially the paragraph above.
Its also 10 percent of first fruits, meaning gross pay!

Following up on this, If I get a tax refund, based on my charitable contributions, do I tithe on the refund, too?
Wouldn’t that be ‘double tithing’?
Well, Yes.
But I have been to told it is ‘gross income’ and to tithe the return (by church leaders).
I have read that there is actually a second, and third tithe in the OT. I read about it some in the past, but cannot quote it well enough for now.
But, if we are under OT Law, better pay those second and third tithes.
The Council at Jerusalem
Acts 5:
19”Therefore it is my judgment that we do not trouble those who are turning to God from among the Gentiles, 20but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood.
No tithe mentioned.
