Military is only allowed to follow lawful orders. simply following orders didn’t work out so well as a defense in the Nuremberg Trials, did it?

No, you are required to follow the lawful orders ofnthose appointed over you. If you are ordered to commit a war crime, tour obligation as an officer is to refuse.

Putting a bit of the screws to terrorists is one thing. But deliberately targeting civilian family members of a bad guy is a war crime.

If a President wants to order someone to do that, then he'd have to change a few laws and abrogate a couple of treaties first. Else the officer who kills civilians on orders from Trump.could find himself prosecuted criminally by the next President.
