U.S. Republicans in Washington are coming to grips with what many of them not long ago considered an unimaginable reality: Donald Trump is likely to be their presidential nominee and standard-bearer.
The prospect of Trump winning the Republican primary had been the stuff of Washington jokes, whispered hallway conversations and eye-rolls, even as he led in public opinion polls for months and dominated debate after debate.
But with the brash billionaire now winning three straight contests in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada, denial is giving way to a mostly gloomy acceptance that he may have too much momentum to be stopped, especially if wins big in key Southern primaries next week that look favorable to him.
"It fills all of us with concern and dread, said Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona, who has endorsed fellow Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, considered the main hope of the Republican establishment to derail Trumps march to the nomination.

The "go-along with democrats" republicans have never been so unhappy and powerless! Sweet revenge for their craven duplicity!
It’s really the “dread” that rats feel when they perceive the ship is sinking.
Jeff Flake;
Mea Culpa. Maxima mea culpa.
My biggest voting booth mistake since 2000.
not this republican
The one thing that is getting more and more clear is that the real role of the GOP is to simulate the outward appearance of political competition.
it is a lie that we are now living in a genuine democracy and the only question in my life my mind is how long has that been a lie.
this is the political equivalent of when you hear about one of those long term marriages in which it turns out to contain a person who is a homosexual.
Mine was Rubio
“It fills all of us with concern and dread, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ....and might I add, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. This is the people’s revenge
I WANT to taste their tears! Hahahahahhaha!
Lots of entrenched DC parasites are gonna be exposed...can’t wait.
Well, at least the homosexual part fits at least one of these characters. :0)
These guys let idealism regarding globalism as a panacea trump good sense, so they themselves are going to get Trumped. Cheesy, but oddly poetic.
Its funny to hear them to complain the base refused to take Jeb and isn’t falling in line behind their designated replacement Boobio.
The frauds in Washington haven’t a clue about what’s happening outside their clubby elite circles.
This coming Tuesday, they’ll get the message out and clear.
“Jeff Flake....”
Yep, he was supposed to be so much better than McCain, but he fell right in line under his Uniparty handlers.
it really really now makes sense to me that this system chose to use the IRS to harass the Tea Party because that apparently is the only place from which genuine political competition emanates.
What kind of democracy monitors every single phone call and text you make and also features an opposition party which is completely fake..??
why would any person in their right mind risk their life and defend that system..?
If Rubio was the main hope of the republican establishment, there was no hope for the rest of us. Good to see the party fractured.
Source is Reuters, a perennial purveyor of left wing propaganda.
These idiots need to fear the people who elect them.
Reuters could have written this story in 1980. The Republican candidate is Reagan who was thought of by the smug elites as simple and extreme and about to wreck the party. We all know how that turned out.
It all boils down to the GOPe not being able to ‘shove down your throats’ their candidate who supports CFR; TTP; TPA; and New World Order....
