Schwarz is German, and also Yiddish. Yiddish is Middle High German with little bits of Hebrew stuck on as calques. My grandfather lived on a street where the Irish neighborhood bumped up against the Jewish one, so he grew up fluent in Yiddish. The Jewish guys always assumed he was Jewish too, since our family name was susceptible of parsing as German not Irish; so they were all surprised when he got engaged to an Irish girl. So when he got together with the "guys", they'd all congratulate him on his engagement, and then one would drop his voice to a low level and add, "...but, Eddie! A gentile?!"
