I’m no fan of Karl Rove, but as some point Trump needs to start defending himself, his ideas, and his vision for America with something other than 3rd grade insults. At some point, the ‘shiny object’ that is The Donald will wear thin.
He’s running for President of the United States, not prom king.
Suggest you watch the interview he did yesterday with Pat Robertson at Regent University:

The interview part starts at 19 minutes in, if you’d rather skip the Trump monologue. I thought Robertson asked very good questions and Trump gave very good answers.
Just as it’s a mistake to try to judge a cheerleaders academic abilities by how she shakes a pompom, it’s wrong to judge Trump’s vision and ideas by the performance he has to put on when confronted by a “debate” audience made up of GOPe donors and a hostile moderator. Just suggesting to have a listen and then see if you still feel he’s running for prom king ;-)
I think if you watch any popular entertainment you can see the intelligence level of the public at large, hence Trumps soundbite campaign. General public only understands sound bites and cattle prods. Oh, and free stuff too.

I'm a Cruz guy, but there is no "there" there.
What you are either missing or are trying to block out from your mind is that the vast bulk of Trump supporters are virtually single issue voters. His plans for securing the border and ejecting people who shouldn't be here have been explained.
All other issues aren't even secondary or tertiary to the Trump base. So you won't get anywhere attempting to engage them on any other issues or combination of issues without first having an equally border focused candidate to advance.
That's how it is when attempting to engage single issue voters. To have any hope of dialogue you have to both understand and accept what they are about.
