It’s strange watching the joy on FR when a true conservative, and someone who has for the most part been a champion of ours against some real slime balls, stumbles.
Not so strange when the person is as whiny as Ted and had all the appeal of stale bread to a majority of voters. He doesn’t really stand a chance.
Then again, we know the uneducated loves Trump, so perhaps not so surprising.
I would not hesitate to write that perhaps part of it is spiritual, too. Blinded and hardened.

People are choosing Trump because they honestly believe he is our only shot for taking down The Media, The Establishment and the Clinton Crime Syndicate.
Get over yourself, and get over your hurt feelings. This isnt a Safe Space. This is a political campaign.
Isn’t it? And doesn’t seem like the type of behavior that was tolerated in past presidential election years and then on behalf of folks with very similar concerning issues as the current front runner.
I don’t think it’s animosity against Cruz here but a reaction against many of his followers who have been so insufferable in this forum. Yapping about “ground game” and how Trump will get his comeuppance. Well the much ballyhooed ground game never materialized and Trump is crushing Cruz even among conservatives and the evangelicals.
Cruz is an okay guy but this is Trump’s year.
How true it is. Defaming one of the most conservative people in the Senate over a liberal hack is unbelievable and personally unforgivable.
FR has been infiltrated by some liberal hacks that have taken FR down a different road then what most believe the Boss intended it to go.
But it is his road and his to fix.
That’s because the hatred toward an evangelical Christian is thick on Free Republic. It’s the Catholics, atheists, and agnostics, who lump all evangelicals with the Prosperity gospel shiesters.
...and then they mock his Christianity
You've got a point there. I'm all in for Trump but still - Cruz has been very helpful overall for the conservative cause. We should not celebrate his downfall and support him in future endeavers. It's just a Trump year, people are ticked and Trump reflects that.
I liked Cruz but he just seems to have developed a Nixonian kinda “dirty tricks” reputation.
Agree.
I know there are some here who genuinely think Trump is a good candidate, but even if they are taken in by his fame and grandstanding it is hard for me to imagine the hatred of Cruz. Cruz has been a stalwart conservative on nearly every issue for a long time. He was conservative when it was difficult and unpopular to be conservative. He is not just a Republican, he is a conservative. And as far as I can tell, he has never changed his opinion on something for the sake of advancing his own interests.
I'm not in heat for Cruz, but I don't like the bashing one little bit.
FR ain't what it used to be.
Indeed.
What I’ve always thought was a shame about Freerepublic was being slammed for voting your conscience.
Bizarre to me too. The best Conservative we have and people are wishing him ill; with friends like these, who needs enemies?
I doubt Cruz can beat Hillary. That's my only argument against Cruz. It's a big one. I don't worry about Cruz's conservatism. The anti-Cruz side has only a few talking points that they repeat endlessly, which is a sign that he's almost completely conservative on everything else, even granting that he was mistaken about TPP and so forth.
But all of Cruz's solid conservative ideas are worthless if he can't win. The primaries are a real life test of a candidate's ability to win. Right now Cruz is an F student.
That's not good enough to beat Hillary. It may not even beat Sanders.
Yup. Cruz has fought for our Constitution many times, and fought against the GOP establishment numerous times. But hey, Trump says it like it is - in non-specific generalities like Perot, while his followers go giddy.
Trump is going to get stumped in a one-on-one debate with Hillary. Why? Because Hillary has years of experience spinning, parsing, twisting, avoiding, changing subject to detailed talking points, and actual lying that she gets away with. Plus, Trump has yet to articulate WHY we need to make, "America Great Again", as in restore our Constitutional principles that made the US the envy of the World. He says this is bad, that is bad, and we'll fix it. Sound familiar?
THE only good thing I see about a President Trump is his talent for selecting the best people for the big jobs. If he actually wins the Oval Office and actually makes the changes he claims, I will be the first one to admit I was wrong. Remember, Romney was correct when he said (to paraphrase), "some 47% of the populace lives off others". How will he get the "gimmes" on board without articulating that there lives would be better if they had jobs?
Bye bye Canadian Cruz

I share some of your sentiment. Yet, I must say the difference between Trump and Cruz for me is that they will both end up doing less than they promised but Trump had the guts to slap China and Mexico right in the face, on the World Stage. I still think Cruz will be working with Trump and helping him.
