Ted Cruz slams Donald Trump: ‘We can’t be fooled by P.T. Barnum
The Washington Times ^ | February 24, 2016 | Seth McLaughlin

Taking aim at businessman Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz said at a campaign rally Wednesday that too much is riding on the 2016 presidential election to get fooled by a showman that is more bluster than substance...

"We can't be fooled by P.T. Barnum," Mr. Cruz said, alluding to the late founder of the Barnum & Bailey Circus. "The time for the clowns and the acrobats and the dancing bears has past."......

When Trump wins, you’re correct that SNL will have fun with his hair! Doubtful that they and others will continue their attacks on Palin at that time, unless she is appointed to a cabinet position.

You Can Easily Judge the Character of a Man by How He Treats Those Who Can Do Nothing for Him

............"Trump has made little secret of his inclination to strike back hard - on the campaign trail and in the courts - against anybody who opposes him. But the secret deposition in the San Diego case calls attention to the danger that a Trump presidency could turn into what one lawyer who has sued Trump called a "litigation circus" in which a sitting president would be forced to submit to multiple depositions and even jury trials as a result of ongoing civil lawsuits.

Little noticed while he has emerged as the Republican frontrunner for president, Trump remains mired in litigation on multiple fronts. In addition to defending the Trump University suits, he has initiated legal action in the past year against restaurateurs and the Univision network after they pulled out of business deals over his comments about Mexican immigrants. He has also recently threatened to sue rival Ted Cruz on the grounds that he is not eligible to be president because he was born in Canada. At a CNN forum Thursday night, in response to a question about his propensity to threaten opponents with lawsuits, Trump replied, in part, "I have wonderful lawyers. I like to send letters."

Just last week - three days before Makaeff made her court filing - a judge in Washington, D.C., overruled the objections of Trump's lawyers and ordered him to submit to a deposition in a suit he filed against one of the restaurateurs.

As Yahoo News noted in August, none of these cases would go away were Trump elected president. In 1997, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously that presidents are not immune from civil litigation while in office, rejecting Bill Clinton's claim that he should not be subjected to a sexual harassment lawsuit brought by a former Arkansas state employee, Paula Jones." -- Trump is accused of financially threatening woman during secret deposition

It was one of the Snuffelumpagi who asked Trump what he thought of a list of names he’d been called. Of P.T. Barnum he replied, “We need some P.T. Barnum in our country, frankly. Our country needs a cheerleader.”

Cruz should be careful.

There are suckers born every day, especially the ones that Ted has fooled into believing he is anti amnesty.

TED CRUZ: U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, Hearing, 5/21/13:

"And I'd like to make a final point to those advocacy groups that are very engaged in this issue and rightly concerned about addressing our immigration system and, in particular, about addressing the situation for the 11 million who are currently in the shadows. If this amendment is adopted to the current bill, the effect would be that those 11 million under this current bill would still be eligible for RPI status. They would still be eligible for legal status and indeed, under the terms of the bill, they would be eligible for LPR status as well so that they are out of the shadows, which the proponents of this bill repeatedly point to as their principal objective to provide a legal status for those who are here illegally to be out of the shadows. This amendment would allow that happen, but what it would do is remove the pathway to citizenship so that there are real consequences that respect the rule of law and that treat legal immigrants with the fairness and respect they deserve. And a second point to those advocacy groups that are so passionately engaged. In my view, if this committee rejects this amendment, and I think everyone here views it as quite likely this committee will choose to reject this amendment, in my view, that decision will make it much, much more likely that this entire bill will fail in the House of Representatives. I don't want immigration reform to fail. I want immigration reform to pass. And so I would urge people of good faith on both sides of the aisle, if the objective is to pass common sense immigration reform that secures the borders, that improves legal immigration, and AMNESTY: that allows those who are here illegally to come in out of the shadows. Then we should look for areas of bipartisan agreement and compromised to come together. And this amendment, I believe, if this amendment were to pass, the chances of this bill passing into law would increase dramatically."

Better PT Barnum than Elmer Gantry.

By the way, Burt Lancaster played both characters. I saw him play PT Barnum years ago on a TV movie - it was a really great movie and PT Barnum was actually nice decent man who made his stars rich and his audience happy.

Wall Street Journal calls on Trump to release tax returns

The Wall Street Journal is calling on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to release his tax returns by the end of the month.

The newspaper's conservative-leaning editorial board wrote Friday that Trump must prove he is as successful in the business world as he says he is.

"One of Donald Trump's claims to presidential competence is his business and financial success, and so he should want voters to see the proof beyond the gilded staircases," they wrote. "He could enhance his credibility on the point by releasing his tax returns."

The Journal catalogued Trump's repeated dodges on the question of his tax returns. They noted that he said in January that "I have everything all approved," but said last week that the returns will still take several months.

"Waiting that long suggests that he'd wait until he wins or loses the nomination, which means before primary voters can get a look," the editorial said.

It warned Trump against falling into the same "bad political mistake" 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney made in waiting until two months before that election to release his returns, allowing Democrats to spread speculation about Romney's finances.

The Journal noted that Trump's rivals Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz have not released their most recent tax returns, but both publicized their returns when running for Senate in recent years.

Trump on Wednesday accused the Journal of having it out for him,........"
