You have to cut Der Speigel a little more slack that the American press. They have a lot more copies of Goebbels instructions on how to manipulate the peasants than we do in this country. And it's in their native language!

A long and disappointing, but not surprising, article. The author systematically denies, marginalizes, or explains away claims of press inadequacy and it is only when we reach the last sentence that the readers get any sense of "well, perhaps there's some truth to it". In short, the medium is not, nor has it ever been, a satisfactory watchdog on itself.

They're watching the anger build and dismissing it with contempt as unreasonable. But the anger isn't really to be dismissed.
