Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has one option if he wants to win the Republican nomination. Tomorrow night, during a debate with Donald Trump, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), Ohio Governor John Kasich, and Dr. Ben Carson, Cruz must clock Trump as hard as he can with his best rhetorical punch. He can't be lawyerly. He can't be civil. He has to get in the mud with Trump and pulverize him. There are three reasons for that.
Rubio Will Never Drop Out... Rubio's going nowhere...
Cruz Must Win More Than Texas On March 1, Or he's toast. Again, the fact that Rubio won't drop out under any circumstances means that Cruz can't hope to win a bunch of second places in the SEC primary, then go forward and pick up Rubio's supporters. Rubio will still be in after the SEC primary. And as we saw in Iowa, even a Cruz victory turns into a Rubio victory in the media...
So, all of this means that Cruz will actually have to beat Trump outright with Rubio still in the race, not wait for the never-gonna-happen Rubio flameout. He can do it, but only by recognizing that Trump is the biggest set of balls in the race, and the only way to defeat Trump is by kicking him directly in the groin on national television. That means Cruz should unleash everything up to and including the kitchen sink. He's going to have to out-masculine Trump.
He should face down Trump and say to him, "Donald, for months, everybody has been tiptoeing around you out of courtesy. Enough. We all know you're a spoiled brat who's never had anybody say no to him. You're a pathetic, bloated old man who stood on daddy's money stack to make billions, and then can't shut up about how he's a self-made man. You're a ridiculous dolt who lies about his politics, brags about having sex with married women, and shafts little old ladies for cash. And every time you are attacked, your face turns as red as the Kool-Aid man -just like it's doing now. Then you cite polls, as though polls make you not all those things. They don't. You're just as much of a ridiculous clown as you ever were."
If Trump tries to interrupt him, Cruz will have to tell him to shut the hell up, and then not back down.
It will be brutal. But if Cruz wants to win, he's going to have no other choice. Trump won't be defeated so long as both Cruz and Rubio are in the race, and Rubio's going nowhere. Somebody's going to have to knock King Trump off the top of the hill.
I can’t wait to see the nasally, whiny voiced Canuck go all tough guy on Trump. Cruz is as about as tough as Jeb!
Won’t make any difference because people have sort of quit watching the debates.
Face it, nothing Cruz can do will change the persona that is him.
This has got to be the dumbest political advice since the word “potato-e”. Oh, that was Bill Kristol, that genius...
And cost Christie his candidacy. It's not like Cruz isn't calling Rush every name in the book now, isn't snipping pieces of a conversation and attaching unrelated meaning to it.
Cruz can do what he wants but I think with his current reputation of dirty tricks and dishonesty, showing that side in full color might do him in.
” These are both just bad messengers of conservatism. “
Ben Shapiro was born in 1984.
So his memory of what the Reagan election meant to the rest of us is zero.
He was a small child during Reagan and GHW Bush. He essentially grew up during the Clinton and Dubya years, and God knows what he thinks conservatism ought to be.
Sure he could try it. I just think it rings hollow when it’ll be completely planned and thus make him look like a politician. The answer is to attack Hillary and the establishment Republicans not Trump. Everyone who has attacked Trump has failed and the reason is because Trump didn’t cause this mess. Politicians did (Obama, Bush, Hillary, the Senate, the House etc.). Fiornia was doing great when she was hitting Hillary all day and failed when she tried to attack Trump. Same with Rand Paul.
And that's supposed to help his likeability quotient?
“On a serious note, Shapiro is suffering from TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) with this article. Cruz canât win this by calling Trump names ..... it makes Cruz look small, not Trump.”
Rubio would love to see this; who pays Shapiro?
Because he never said Cruz left Nevada.
Cruz might as well have left.
And that's the problem with Cruz and other politicians. They have to manufacture the emotion and the statement, focus group it, tweak it, rehearse it and deliver it JUST right. Meanwhile Trump just goes ahead and is honest about his emotions and what he says. Everyone knows a phony when they see it and Cruz isn't very good an conveying that he's genuine.
Looks like that attacking eagle just scared the Cruz out of him.
Lady, you are speaking to a redneck outdoorsmen hunter. I've dealt with several dozen more precarious situations better than Chicken Don did with that Eagle.
LMAO
There is nothing Cruz or Rubio could do or say at this point to wound Trump. They are a couple of lightweights who in actuality have no business in the presidential race. Neither one of them has noteworthy accomplishments under their belt that would evidence readiness to be the leader of the Free World. This presidential campaign has outed both of them as just not ready for duty.
Absent an alien abduction Trump is the next GOP nominee.
I’d love to see you with an enraged raptor! I’ll bet you’d drop your holier-than-thou disgust with naughty language pretty quick!
But no one is talking about what Trump needs to do. He is on a narrow path to win the nomination with a plurality. However, this strategy relys on winner take all state which is only 16% of delegates. This means a victory in winner take all Florida for Rubio or Kasich in winner take all Ohio is a disaster for Trump. Then there is Texas that is a Hybrid that Cruz can take more delegates even in a loss.
Narrow path? Hardly. Trump gets support across the board. Rubio and Cruz are on far more narrow path at this point. Rubio tactically hitting suburbs and Cruz with his one note social values campaign that has cratered. Now those are dead end primary season strategies. Trump’s path translates quite nicely to the general.
The campaign relied on evangelicals when in reality there is not enough of them and the myth of millions staying at home was not true.
Cruz on the other hand has been getting terrible advice from his advisors. It’s almost like they want him to lose. Hmmmm?? It’s hard to claim the evangelical highroad if you are rolling around in the mud with the rest of them. Trotting Beck around didn’t help.
Folks have seen his family, the women smears are meaningless to guy Trump's age and will be viewed as a desperate attack by Cruz who has run a despicable campaign. Cruz said recently that he never slings mud, and now he would be found out as the liar he really always was.
Ironically, that is why Trump has the lead, because desperate people do desperate things, and the usual has not worked.
Very good points
